About

Mercedes Torres DDS, located at 629 W 173rd St #2G in New York, NY 10032, stands as a cornerstone of accessible, high-quality dental care in the vibrant Washington Heights community. Led by the esteemed Dr. Mercedes Torres-Rodriguez, D.D.S., this general dentistry practice has been serving patients for over four decades, embodying a commitment to oral health that spans generations. Dr. Torres graduated from dental school in 1983, marking the beginning of a distinguished career built on clinical excellence, patient trust, and unwavering dedication to preventive and restorative dentistry[3]. With 42 years of hands-on experience as of recent records, her practice at M W Dental Office – GP has become a trusted haven for families, individuals, and newcomers seeking reliable dental solutions in a neighborhood known for its diverse population and bustling energy[6][8].

The mission of Mercedes Torres DDS is simple yet profound: to deliver comprehensive dental care that prioritizes patient comfort, long-term oral wellness, and personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual's unique needs. In an era where dental anxiety is common, Dr. Torres distinguishes her practice by fostering a welcoming environment where patients feel heard, informed, and empowered. Her expertise in general dentistry encompasses everything from routine cleanings and examinations to complex restorative procedures, ensuring that patients receive seamless care under one roof without the need for multiple referrals[1][8]. This one-stop approach is particularly valuable in a densely populated area like Upper Manhattan, where convenience and efficiency are paramount.

What sets Mercedes Torres DDS apart from larger corporate dental chains or impersonal clinics is the deeply personal touch infused into every visit. Dr. Torres, with her NPI number 1750453882 registered through the NPPES system, brings a wealth of knowledge honed over 42 years, allowing her to anticipate patient concerns and deliver precise, effective treatments[5]. Unlike high-volume practices that rush appointments, her office maintains a boutique feel, emphasizing thorough consultations and follow-up care. Patients appreciate the bilingual capabilities—Spanish and English—to better serve the local Hispanic community, making dental visits less intimidating for non-native speakers[2]. The practice's location in a residential building at 629 W 173rd St enhances accessibility, with easy parking and proximity to public transit, reducing barriers to regular dental maintenance[6].

Dr. Torres's unique value proposition lies in her holistic approach to dentistry, viewing oral health as integral to overall well-being. She excels in preventive care, educating patients on proper hygiene techniques to avert costly future issues, while also offering restorative services like fillings, crowns, and extractions when needed[8]. Her practice accepts new patients, signaling an open-door policy that welcomes everyone from children requiring their first check-up to seniors managing age-related dental challenges[1]. In a competitive New York dental landscape dominated by specialists, Mercedes Torres DDS shines by providing broad-spectrum general dentistry with the attentiveness of a family practitioner. The office's participation in dental savings plans further democratizes access, helping uninsured or underinsured patients afford essential services without compromising quality[4][6].

Over the years, Dr. Torres has navigated the evolution of dental technology and best practices, staying current to offer modern solutions in a cozy, community-rooted setting. Whether addressing cosmetic concerns for a confident smile or managing acute pain with gentle precision, her practice consistently earns praise for reliability—though formal reviews are sparse, the lack of negative feedback speaks to consistent satisfaction[1]. What truly differentiates Mercedes Torres DDS is its role as a neighborhood anchor: a place where long-term relationships flourish, preventive education empowers self-care, and every patient leaves with not just healthier teeth, but renewed confidence. In Washington Heights, where healthcare disparities can loom large, Dr. Torres's enduring presence—contactable at (212) 923-3662 or (212) 543-3000—represents stability and excellence, proving that exceptional dentistry thrives on expertise, empathy, and community connection[2][5][6]. This practice isn't just a dental office; it's a legacy of smiles preserved and futures brightened, inviting new patients to experience the difference of care that lasts a lifetime.

I’m so grateful for Dr. Torres. She always accommodates me and my insurance, and she’s incredibly kind and professional. I really appreciate how she makes time for me, especially during emergencies. All of her patients love her, and I can see why—she never judges and always makes me feel safe and comfortable. I can be self-conscious about my teeth, but with Dr. Torres I always feel cared for and respected. Worth the wait!

One of the best of the best dentists I’ve been to in my life. She is so good that I did not feel anything during the treatment. I had a broken tooth and she took care of it very well. She educated me on what I’ll need eventually but did not over-recommend, and took care of what I needed at this time. I strongly recommend her to anyone and everyone, and having a lifetime dentist like her would be such a blessing.

Somebody please explain how the insurance company says "approved" and the dentist's office says "denied." My mother-in-law deserves better than a dental version of telephone. This kind of miscommunication not only delays care - it creates unnecessary wasted time. If you're handling people's health and insurance, you need to get the facts straight. The lack of misinformation followed by no communication leaves a bad taste— we're here for care. Be aware and always double check.
