About

Central Park West Dentistry is a well-established dental practice located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, serving the Lincoln Square and Columbus Circle area. With over 25 years of dedicated service to the neighborhood, the practice has evolved from its origins in the late 1990s into a modern, full-service dental facility that combines the resources and conveniences of an established group practice with the personalized attention of a locally-owned business.[3][4]

The practice is currently housed in a striking fourth-floor suite at 1881 Broadway, occupying the entire floor of what was formerly a WeWork space. This relocation, completed in recent years, represents a significant milestone in the practice's history. Previously operating from two ground-floor offices in the West 60s, the consolidation into a single, modern space reflects the practice's commitment to providing enhanced patient care and convenience.[3] The new office was thoughtfully designed with patient feedback in mind, featuring a warm, residential-inspired aesthetic paired with state-of-the-art clinical technology.[3]

Central Park West Dentistry is led by Dr. Babak Gholami, who remains the owner of the practice, ensuring continuity and a patient-centered approach that has defined the business for more than two decades.[1] The practice maintains an exceptionally loyal patient base, evidenced by its impressive Google rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars and thousands of patient records on file.[3]

The practice is renowned for its unusually generous operating hours, opening early and remaining open until 8 or 9 p.m. on weekdays, with weekend availability on Saturdays and Sundays.[2][3] This commitment to accessibility reflects the practice's understanding of modern patient needs, accommodating those juggling work, school, and unpredictable schedules.

What truly sets Central Park West Dentistry apart is its integration of advanced dental technology with a compassionate, patient-centered philosophy. The office is equipped with cutting-edge technology including 3D dental imaging, intra-oral cameras, precision scanners for digital impressions, and ultrasonic cleaning devices operating at 25,000 movements per second.[3] Beyond traditional preventive and restorative care, the practice offers innovative treatment options such as Curodont, a preventive technique that supports remineralization and can reverse early cavities without drilling—services not yet commonplace in many dental offices.[3]

The practice offers comprehensive dental services spanning general and family dentistry, restorative procedures, cosmetic treatments, and advanced procedures including Invisalign and dental implants.[4] The team is experienced in managing dental anxiety, emergency dentistry, and providing specialized care for geriatric patients.[5] This breadth of expertise, combined with the practice's commitment to making quality care accessible through insurance acceptance, membership plans, and flexible payment options, positions Central Park West Dentistry as a comprehensive solution for diverse patient needs.[4]

With a team of experienced and compassionate providers who have been with the practice for many years, Central Park West Dentistry has built its reputation on genuine patient relationships, individualized attention, and a belief that a visit to the dentist should be a positive experience.[4] The practice's longevity and growth alongside the Upper West Side neighborhood demonstrate its deep roots in the community and its ability to adapt to evolving patient expectations while maintaining the core values that have defined it since its inception.

I've been going to CPW for years now, it's a bit of a trip but it's worth every minute it takes to get there. I have major anxiety about dental work, but the providers here always go above and beyond to make sure I'm comfortable during treatments and check in frequently as we go. The extended hours are really helpful for scheduling around work, and they're super helpful about trying to schedule things into the smallest number of visits when I need treatments. The new location is really nice, as an added perk

I’ve been using CPW Dentistry for a few years now, and I actually travel by LIRR from Long Island just to continue going to their practice—that alone should say a lot. I recently had my first visit at their new location, and I felt relaxed the moment I stepped off the elevator. I was greeted by friendly, welcoming staff and even had the chance to grab a hot tea from their waiting room since I arrived a little early for my appointment. The space is calm, modern, and inviting. Within a few minutes, the technician took me back for my X-rays and then proceeded with my annual cleaning and checkup. Everything felt efficient but never rushed. Dr. Kopf was extremely thorough in both her questioning and examination, taking the time to explain things clearly and make sure I was comfortable throughout the visit. CPW Dentistry consistently provides a great experience—from the atmosphere to the staff to the level of care. It’s well worth the trip, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I have never been someone to enjoy going to doctor’s appointments but I will proudly shout “I love my dentist” whenever someone mentions they’re looking for a new one. I’ve been going to CPW for over 8 years and have only positive things to say. The office is super cute, they offer coffee, and have excellent taste in music. Cliche to say but I walk out smiling every time.

From the moment I stepped into the elevator, I was welcomed with a warm greeting and a genuine smile. The new office is an undeniable upgrade—complete with televisions on the ceiling to make the entire experience as stress-free as possible. Leany Vasquez, the dental hygienist who did my cleaning, was truly exceptional. She is incredibly professional, highly competent, and immediately put me at ease with her warm and friendly demeanor. She took the time to explain everything she was doing, answered my questions thoughtfully, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire appointment. It’s clear that she takes great pride in her work and is deeply attentive to her patients’ needs. She was also very accommodating, ensuring the experience was tailored to my comfort from start to finish. I connected with her right away and didn’t hesitate to book my next six-month appointment with her. I’ve trusted CPW Dentistry with my dental care for over six years now, and I wouldn’t entrust my care to anyone else.

I am writing this review out of genuine disappointment and concern regarding the business practices at Central West Dentistry, as I paid for services that were not delivered as described. I returned to this practice in August 2025 specifically because of my past positive experience with Dr. Martin, who had always been sensitive to my severe dental anxiety. For my August appointment, booked for a cleaning, exam, and X-rays, I confirmed in advance that I required nitrous for the entire visit along with Valium. Instead, I was met with repeated pressure from a hygienist I had never met before about “concerns” with my teeth and gums, even though Dr. Martin had already examined me and said everything “looked good.” The hygienist left mid-appointment to discuss insurance coverage with the office manager, leaving me waiting. When I asked to proceed with the cleaning I originally booked, she turned the nitrous off, switched to oxygen and I ultimately left without the full service. Because I care deeply about my dental health, I later scheduled Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing for today, the deep cleaning their hygienist recommended. I was told it would take two hours to complete all four quadrants and cost roughly $350 per quadrant. I prepaid nearly $2,000 and confirmed, in writing, that I required nitrous for the entire appointment and did not want any upsells mid appointment. Despite receiving multiple confirmations (two emails, three calls, and a text), the experience again fell far short. I flew into NYC specifically for this appointment and timed my anxiety medication with the appointment time to ensure treatment would go smoothly. When I arrived early at their request, the hygienist attempted to rush me into treatment before the nitrous had taken effect, contradicting their claim of understanding dental anxiety care. Then I was told I would receive injections to numb my entire mouth, something never mentioned during the booking process, not listed online in the procedure description, and not disclosed in any of our prior conversations. I declined and requested standard numbing gel. The “two-hour” Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing began at 4:02 pm and ended at 4:32 pm, 30 minutes total. Literally. I was then told the reason was simply, “Your teeth are in such good shape.” This is especially concerning given that four months earlier, I was told (during a basic cleaning) that my gums were in such poor condition they needed to stop mid-appointment to verify insurance approval for a deep cleaning. Yet now, after paying cash upfront, all four quadrants were completed in just half an hour. It feels inconsistent at best, and at worst, like a bait-and-switch situation. I also paid $215 for nitrous oxide. Based on the photo I took, the machine displayed 60% nitrous / 30% oxygen. At no point did I feel the typical physical effects one would expect—especially when combined with a prescribed sedative. It raises the question of whether the nitrous tank was empty or improperly administered. I've had nitrous EVERY dental appointment for 20 years - i know how I'm supposed to feel, I repeatedly said nothing was coming and I was fully alert, yet another scam. To summarize, I paid nearly $2,000 for: * A two-hour Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing that lasted only 30 minutes * Four quadrants of scaling, when realistically only one or two may have been addressed * Nitrous oxide that did not appear to be delivered as represented * An exam I was told was required, yet I never saw the dentist at all. Oh and on my statement, it stated I received an Ibero scan - never happened and the receptionist said, well you weren't charged for it. LOL. I am requesting reimbursement for the nitrous charge, two of the four quadrants, and the exam fee. Patients have choices in dental care. If a practice advertises expertise in treating dental anxiety, the staff should be trained to actually deliver on that promise. Unfortunately, my experience demonstrated the opposite.
