About

NYC Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, led by Dr. Scott O. Kissel, DMD, is a specialized periodontal and implant dentistry practice located in Manhattan. Dr. Kissel is a board-certified specialist in Periodontics[5] who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease (periodontal disease) and the placement of dental implants[1]. The practice is distinguished by its commitment to advanced microsurgical techniques and minimally invasive treatment approaches. Dr. Kissel trained under the mentorship of Dr. Dennis Shanelec, widely regarded as the pioneer of periodontal microsurgery and founder of the MicroSurgical Training Institute (MTI) in Santa Barbara[1]. This intensive training in fine motor skills, advanced surgical techniques, and precise use of microsurgical instruments has positioned Dr. Kissel among a select few dentists worldwide who possess these specialized capabilities[1]. The practice addresses a significant patient population: approximately 50% of Americans are affected by gum disease, and 120 million have missing teeth or decaying teeth requiring removal[1]. Dr. Kissel's approach emphasizes saving natural teeth whenever possible, but when extraction is necessary, he utilizes microsurgery for minimally invasive tooth removal and offers same-day implants using the renowned SMILE Technique[1]. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Kissel is an active contributor to the dental field, regularly lecturing around the country and publishing articles in well-referred journals[2]. He has contributed to a chapter in Carranza's Clinical Periodontology textbook, considered the most definitive and widely used textbook for both classroom and clinical practice[2]. The practice prioritizes patient comfort and anxiety management, recognizing that dental anxiety is a common concern[2]. Dr. Kissel's background as a general dentist provides him with comprehensive understanding of oral health, enabling more holistic treatment plans for patients[2]. The practice offers personalized, long-term solutions whether patients need to replace a single tooth or completely restore their smile, with attention to overall health, appearance, and well-being[1]. The office environment emphasizes comfort and relaxation through various amenities and resources designed to create a positive dental experience[2].

The best in NYC for perio work. Provides honest assessment of the work that you need in order to protect your gums/teeth and will not upsell you. Book without hesitation. I have completed phase one of my gum graft journey, have already booked phase two, and plan on booking phase three as well. I had heard a lot of horror stories online regarding gum grafts, stitches, and difficult recoveries. My procedure was 90 mins (gum grafting on three teeth) around 2pm and by the same evening I was already eating a McDonald's burger just using the other side of my mouth. I went to work the next day and managed with extra strength Tylenol. There was very little impact on my life and now my teeth are protected with stronger gums. Every staff member in the office is professional and gracious as well. Communication skills are top notch and they also file claims correctly with insurances so that you may receive your reimbursements accordingly. Fabulous.

I had a very positive experience. The office is pristinely clean and the waiting room is well-appointed. The front desk staff are efficient and warmly welcoming, The clinical assistants are lovely and expert. I was very pleased with Dr. Kissel’s attention to detail and with his precision. He provided clear and detailed information about what I could expect throughout my gum surgery. His manner is always professional.

I had a wonderful experience at Dr. Kissel’s office. Even though it was near closing time, the staff and Dr. Kissel still took the time needed to carefully go over a complicated issue I was dealing with. On the side, I was also glad to learn something extra about my plaque buildup and brushing technique — I received clear, practical instructions on how to correct it, which I really appreciated. Overall, I left feeling cared for and much more confident about my oral health.

Very professional and effective. For me, the first test with any dentist or physician is whether they honor the appointment time. Dr. Kissel's office certainly does. Of course, the ultimate test is the quality of the dental work, and in my case, it was first-rate.

I had a consult with Dr. Kissel once and sadly I cannot join the long list of people who have written positive reviews for the Doctor. I went back to his office and spoke with his front desk regarding a question I had about the treatment. I received a phone call from one of his assistants telling me that the Doctor would not be able to help me and proceed with my case. This happened without any explanation. No answer on the question I had either. Quite a dismissive behavior for an office that prides itself in providing the best care for its patients. After taking my $150 consult fee. Kindly be mindful of the time and resources that your patient has invested, they are fully committed to getting the best care. I hope prospective patients can think very carefully before getting a consult here, your time and resources are not theirs to waste. Response to owner’s response: Sadly what you are saying is not true. On my first and only visit, I followed through with all you asked me to do despite the fact that I felt you were not doing much on the first consult. You asked to take off my crowns on the next visit and I asked if it could be optional as I preferred to not have to take off my crowns. You did not give a yes or no answer to that question and simply asked your front desk to give me a call and tell me that you could not help me. No reason no explanation, just an abrupt shut-off. I never asked for a refund, you yourself decided to give me the refund.
