About

Flatiron Family Dental, located at 34 W 17th St Ground Floor, New York, NY 10011, stands as a premier full-service dental practice in the heart of NYC, dedicated to delivering high-quality dental care infused with comfort, luxury, and genuine patient care. Founded by the dynamic husband-and-wife duo, Dr. Shimonova and Dr. Katz, who first crossed paths on the inaugural day of orientation at NYU College of Dentistry, the practice embodies the profound foundation of love and respect that has defined their personal and professional journey. From that serendipitous meeting, they nurtured a shared vision to create a dental office that transcends conventional care, treating every patient with the warmth and attentiveness reserved for family. This personal touch is the cornerstone of Flatiron Family Dental's ethos, transforming routine visits into enjoyable experiences akin to catching up with old friends. Dr. Shimonova eloquently captures this philosophy: 'Dentistry is about so much more than teeth. A confident smile is so powerful it can light up a whole room. Aside from treating and maintaining oral health, my job is to make you comfortable, make you laugh, and make coming for your checkups as enjoyable as meeting up with a friend.'[1][3] The mission of Flatiron Family Dental is clear: to combine state-of-the-art dentistry with an unwavering commitment to patient comfort, ensuring every visit leaves individuals not just healthier, but empowered with radiant, confident smiles. Their services span a comprehensive spectrum, making them a one-stop destination for all dental needs. In **cosmetic dentistry**, they excel in smile design, veneers, professional whitening, and bonding, crafting aesthetically pleasing results that enhance natural beauty. **Prosthodontics** offerings include crowns, dental implants, bridges, inlays/onlays, and removable dentures, all executed with precision using advanced in-house technologies. For urgent matters, their **emergency dentistry** addresses abscess drainage, swelling, tooth pain, and splinting, providing swift relief when it matters most. **Preventative dentistry** focuses on long-term oral health through sealants, fluoride varnish, and innovative Icon white spot removal. Beyond these, specialized **other services** such as TMJ therapy, sleep apnea treatment, and mandibular advancement devices cater to complex needs, underscoring their holistic approach.[1] What truly sets Flatiron Family Dental apart is their pioneering adoption of **same-day dentistry**, a game-changer in efficiency and convenience. Leveraging cutting-edge tools like intraoral scanners and 3D printers, the team fabricates custom crowns, bridges, and restorations on-site, eliminating weeks of waiting and multiple appointments. This innovation, highlighted in their patient-centric model, allows smiles to be restored in a single visit, minimizing disruption to busy NYC lifestyles while ensuring durable, natural-looking outcomes.[2] The practice's brand-new, state-of-the-art facility boasts top-tier digital imaging, best-in-class instruments, and the latest technologies, all under one roof for seamless care.[1][3] Their professional staff, hand-selected for their dedication to patient joy, creates a welcoming ambiance from arrival to departure—boasting impressive metrics like a high percentage of patients recommending them to friends and family, over multiple types of services provided, and hundreds of five-star Google reviews from new and returning patients.[1] Expertise is evident in the team's credentials: Dr. Shimonova and Dr. Katz's NYU training forms the bedrock, supplemented by Dr. Katz's active practice listings.[5] The practice distinguishes itself further through a patient-first culture, where luxury meets luxury in a stress-free environment, contrasting with impersonal, assembly-line dental experiences elsewhere. They prioritize comprehensive treatment planning, preventive modalities, and cosmetic excellence, ensuring longevity and beauty in every procedure. Flatiron Family Dental's unique value proposition lies in this perfect synergy of advanced technology, personalized service, and rapid results—empowering patients to reclaim their smiles swiftly and joyfully. Whether you're seeking routine maintenance, emergency intervention, or transformative cosmetic work, this practice redefines dental care in Manhattan, proving that exceptional health and happiness are indeed attainable in one luxurious visit. With a commitment to evolution through continuous learning and patient feedback, Flatiron Family Dental continues to shine as a beacon of innovative, compassionate dentistry in New York City.

I was skeptical coming to this practice (I had the same dentist for many years but his practice was sold). Dr Katz was recommended by a colleague and I am beyond happy I came here. Dr Katz and his team are amazing. Dr Katz is so talented, funny, gentle and extremely knowledgeable. He took his time. The clinic is clean, modern (best technology) and the staff friendly and accommodating. Their pricing is transparent. Terrific experience. Thank you.

Flatiron Family Dental is truly outstanding. Warm, professional, and genuinely caring from the first hello. Dr. Shimonova explained everything clearly, the treatment was comfortable, and the office is clean, modern, and always on time. This is the first dental practice in years where I actually look forward to my next visit. Highly recommend!

Dr. Katz is by far the best dentist that I have ever been to in my life. He truly listens and takes his time, and he even does the cleanings himself! I’ve had TMJ issues for years, and I’ve mentioned this to other dentists, who didn’t give it a second thought. Dr. Katz actually sat down with me, pointed out that misalignment in my bite may be contributing to my TMJ, and recommended an orthodontist who could use invisalign to try and fix my situation. He was the only dentist to help me connect the dots and identify a real solution. If you want a dentist who genuinely cares and pays attention to what you actually need, go see Dr. Katz!

I appreciated that this office has a family-oriented approach and a welcoming structure. However, I did not appreciate not having all the information upfront. I came here seeking help for an issue that is both painful and affecting how I see myself. When I go to a professional, I expect to feel cared for and fully informed. Instead, I felt more like I’m — receiving information in fragments and soundbites rather than a clear, complete explanation. Even if someone is getting assistance through insurance or otherwise, every patient deserves the same level of care, clarity, and respect. Transparency matters, especially when patients are already feeling vulnerable.

on 10/28/25, when I was seen by Dr. Sh--- , referred by one of the doctors of Diamond Braces, she was initially very nice and informative. But when she used the scraper, she accidentally scraped my top lip. I waited for an apology, and when she didn’t say anything, I gently tapped her hand and let her know what happened. She acknowledged it, but still didn’t apologize. Then, while scraping the inside of my teeth, she poked my gums—it really hurt—but again, no apology. When she finished the cleaning, I brought it up again to make her aware of what she’d done, and her response was, “You’ll be okay…” I just couldn’t understand why she couldn’t simply apologize. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t schedule my next appointment with her.
