About

Smile Out Loud Pediatric Dentistry, nestled in the vibrant Gramercy/Flatiron district of Manhattan at 201 E 21st St, stands as a beacon of specialized, compassionate oral healthcare for infants, children, adolescents, and individuals with special needs. Founded on the principle that positive early dental experiences lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles, this practice has meticulously crafted an environment where fear is replaced with fun and anxiety with excitement. More than just a dental office, Smile Out Loud is a dedicated pediatric dental home, designed from the ground up to cater to the unique psychological and physiological needs of young patients. The practice's philosophy is encapsulated in its name: to foster not only healthy smiles but joyful, confident expressions that come from feeling safe, understood, and celebrated.

The history of Smile Out Loud is rooted in the vision of its founder(s), who recognized a gap in the market for pediatric dental care that prioritizes emotional well-being as much as clinical excellence. Disheartened by the common perception of dental visits as stressful ordeals, they set out to create a practice that would redefine the experience. From its inception, the mission has been clear: to provide the highest standard of evidence-based pediatric dental care in an atmosphere that is engaging, supportive, and distinctly non-threatening. This mission drives every interaction, from the design of the office—which often features cheerful, themed decor and interactive elements—to the carefully calibrated communication style of the entire team.

The expertise at Smile Out Loud is singularly focused on pediatric dentistry. This specialization means the dentists are not merely general dentists who see children; they are residency-trained specialists in pediatric dentistry. This advanced training encompasses child psychology, growth and development, behavior guidance techniques, sedation, and the treatment of medically complex patients. The team understands the nuances of developing dentition, the prevention and management of childhood dental diseases, and the specific trauma protocols for active kids. This deep expertise allows them to offer services ranging from routine preventive care to complex restorative procedures, all through a pediatric-focused lens.

What truly sets Smile Out Loud apart is its holistic and immersive approach to patient care. The unique value proposition lies in its 'child-first' environment. This is evident in the practice's commitment to behavior guidance, using techniques like 'Tell-Show-Do,' positive reinforcement, and distraction to build trust and cooperation. For children with higher anxiety or special healthcare needs, they offer safe sedation options including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and in-office IV sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, ensuring comprehensive care without trauma. The practice often goes beyond the clinical chair, engaging with the community through educational outreach, school programs, and social media content that empowers parents with knowledge.

Furthermore, the practice distinguishes itself through its dedication to parent partnership. Recognizing that dental health is a team effort, the team invests time in thorough consultations and education, ensuring parents are informed decision-makers. The office logistics are also designed with busy New York families in mind, offering convenient scheduling, efficient visits, and transparent communication regarding financial policies and insurance. In a city with many healthcare options, Smile Out Loud Pediatric Dentistry carves out a special niche by proving that exceptional dental care and an unforgettable, positive experience are not mutually exclusive. It is a place where clinical rigor meets heartfelt compassion, where every child is guided toward a healthy smile with patience, expertise, and a lot of joy, ensuring they truly do leave smiling out loud.

Dr. Jackie and her team are simply put amazing! We were greeted so warmly by their receptionist who got our son to pick a gift toy of his choice. Without any wait, we were moved inside for our son's cleaning and check-up. Gabi thoroughly inspected our son's teeth, carefully gathered insights on our feeding and brushing habits, and ensured our son's teeth is free of tartar. Dr. Jackie went truly above and beyond in the way she approached our son. She has a natural talent in the way she connects with kids. The facility was spotless. They even had a TV in the ceiling to make the dentist visit an enjoyable experience for the little ones. Thanks to Dr Jackie and her team, the dentist visit is no longer something to avoid, but rather a fun experience that we'll look forward to.

Dr. Jackie and the Smile Out Loud team (shoutout to Angie!) are absolutely amazing! They turned what could have been a stressful experience—treating my 4-year-old’s cavities—into something fun, positive, and even exciting. Dr. Jackie was so patient, gentle, and creative in making the visit enjoyable, and my son left proud and smiling instead of nervous. Even my 1.5-year-old, who was just along for the visit, felt included and had a wonderful time, which makes me so grateful for how thoughtful and caring the entire team is. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and I can’t recommend Dr. Jackie and Smile out Loud more highly!

Dr. Jackie is the best! My 23 month old daughter had so much at her dental visit. The office is bright, clean and the staff is super welcoming. I learned more from this visit about how to clean my daughter’s teeth than I did with a different pediatric dentist. Great experience for my daughter which is what is most important for these early dentist visits.

Very happy with everything! Dr. Jackie is extremely friendly and professional. Our hygienist (also named Jackie) was wonderful too. Overall an amazing experience and we’ll sure be back for our next appointment.

Dr Dikansky is a phenomenal dentist. We got a procedure done (tooth extraction and 3 fillings) for my 3 old, we were obviously worried but every went extremely smoothly and as expected. Dr Dikansky and the support staff was extremely careful and caring, everything went exactly as expected and the child recovered well. Highly recommended pediatric dentist!
