About
Essex Dental Center, located at 143 Essex St in the historic and vibrant Lower East Side of Manhattan, stands as a cornerstone of comprehensive oral healthcare for the diverse community of New York City. Established over two decades ago, the practice has grown from a local neighborhood clinic into a respected, state-of-the-art dental facility known for its patient-centric philosophy, clinical excellence, and welcoming atmosphere. The center was founded on the principle that everyone deserves access to high-quality dental care delivered with compassion, respect, and a deep understanding of individual needs. Its history is intertwined with the evolution of the Lower East Side itself—serving long-time residents, new families, and professionals alike, becoming a trusted health partner through generations.
The mission of Essex Dental Center is unequivocally clear: to enhance the health, function, and beauty of patients' smiles while fostering lifelong relationships built on trust, education, and superior clinical outcomes. The practice operates on the belief that oral health is integral to overall systemic health and personal confidence. This holistic approach guides every interaction, from routine cleanings to complex rehabilitative work. The team is committed to demystifying dentistry, ensuring patients are fully informed and comfortable with their treatment plans, and eliminating the anxiety often associated with dental visits.
What truly sets Essex Dental Center apart is its powerful combination of advanced technology, continuous professional development, and an authentic, personalized patient experience. The practice invests in cutting-edge equipment, including digital X-rays, intraoral cameras, and CAD/CAM technology for same-day crowns, ensuring diagnostics are precise, minimally invasive, and efficient. However, technology is merely a tool; the heart of the practice is its team of highly skilled dental professionals. The dentists and hygienists are not only experts in their clinical fields but also exceptional communicators who listen intently to patient concerns and goals.
The clinic's unique value proposition lies in its ability to offer a full spectrum of general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry under one roof, eliminating the need for referrals to specialists for most procedures. This convenience is paired with a meticulously curated environment designed to soothe and comfort. From the modern, clean reception area to the treatment rooms equipped with entertainment options and amenities, every detail is considered to create a positive, low-stress experience. Furthermore, the practice's location in a culturally rich and densely populated neighborhood necessitates a flexible and understanding approach to scheduling, financial options, and communication, which they have mastered.
Ultimately, Essex Dental Center distinguishes itself through a culture of genuine care. It’s not just about treating teeth; it’s about caring for people. This is evident in their unwavering commitment to patient education, their transparent communication regarding costs and treatment, and their efforts to stay involved in the local community. They have built a reputation not merely as technicians, but as health advocates and neighbors. In a city with countless dental options, Essex Dental Center has carved out a distinctive identity as a place where advanced dentistry meets old-fashioned patient care, where clinical results are exceptional, and where every patient is made to feel like the most important person in the room. Customer Reviews
I am a current patient, and while I have had a good enough experience at the office, it's impossible to get ahold of them. I am currently trying to reschedule a follow-up appointment (found out from the hygenist that the dentist wasn't in, at the end of my cleaning, and that I would need to come back), and have already been on hold for over 50 minutes. This is enough to drive me to another dentist. Their mailbox is full, so you can't leave a message, and there doesn't seem to be a way to contact them online. Infuriating!
Due to the limited choices I had with my
Healthfirst insurance — and giving the benefit of the doubt despite this office’s low rating and multiple 1-star reviews — I booked my first cleaning appointment a few weeks back. I arrived this morning and was told they had called me to reschedule, which I had no record of. (Turns out someone made a clerical error when entering my phone number, and it was off by one digit: an area code of 900, as if that would even exist.)
I took the office’s incompetency, and my own inconvenience, as a sign to find a different provider. Maybe the other negative reviews are more credible than I thought…
This place is disorganized and has poor patient care. Dr. Garcia is kind efficient & compassionate. Her team is a different story.
I have had several issues since coming to this location. 1. The dental assistant performed a procedure with no anesthesia. When I flinched from intense pain in my teeth, she yelled not to flinch but raise my hand. I brought the pain to her attention, and she began to argue why would I hurt you on purpose without addressing my initial point. After mentioning I didn't take it personal I just wanted her to be aware of the pain, she told me she wanted to stop providing care. She stopped, with no acknowledgement of the pain or her rude reaction. The insurance paid for an incomplete procedure. That's Mal practice.
When I told her about the poor review to come, she told me and I quote "thank you." Her team obviously doesn't feel our opinions of care matter.
2. If you want a place that will always mix up your appointment time come here.
Today I waited for 30 minutes for an appointment after being told to come early. The front desk receptionist was on her phone the entire time. When I asked her why why have Me come early to only have me wait, she told me to just keep waiting.
I have scheduled appointments several times, and called to re schedule, I'd call & be told that they had no record of the appointment. I'd say but I have an appointment just need to move it and they'd insist that no that was not in their record.
Going to the dentist is hard enough many of us would agree...! This office will raise the bar & make it even harder. To be frustrated come here.
If they remember your appointment date & time, you are literally in for a painful ride.
GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!! Do not ignore all the other 1 star reviews!
This place is terrible. I've never written a review about a dental office before, but here goes:
A) The front desk will lie to you about your coverage status to make you have to call your insurance company to call their bluff.
B) The appointment you make will not be honored and you may be required to wait 1.5 hours if even seen at all.
C) If you are checking with your insurance company because of point A above, and time passes, they may inform you that you have to reschedule.
To summarize points A, B, and C, they will treat you poorly, waste your time, and try to scam you. Go literally anywhere else. Nothing is simple here, everything is stressful and complicated.
#1 dirtiest dentist office I have ever been too the dentist seat scared me half to death. The receptionist was extremely rude and had no knowledge of insurance plans. The doctors recommendation to remove my tooth is laughable at best. The equipment is falling off the walls they really don’t care how truly disgusting and filthy it is there. The paint is peeling off of the walls. I need to see a real dentist now smdh. They are just giving away dentist licenses at this point. Now I need a COVID test leaving this cesspool it’s very shameful.
