About

ODA Primary Health Care Network stands as a cornerstone of community-focused, comprehensive healthcare in North Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1974 as the Organization for the Development of the Arts and later evolving to fulfill a critical community need, ODA transformed into a primary care provider in the 1990s. It was established with a profound mission: to provide high-quality, accessible, and compassionate healthcare to all, regardless of their ability to pay, immigration status, or background. This commitment has anchored its operations for decades, growing from a single-site operation into a robust network serving the vibrant and diverse communities of Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bedford-Stuyvesant from its administrative and service hub at 74 Wallabout St in Brooklyn.\n\nThe organization's mission is deeply rooted in a holistic, patient-centered philosophy. ODA operates on the fundamental belief that health extends beyond the absence of disease; it encompasses physical, mental, dental, and social well-being. This integrated approach is what truly sets ODA apart. Unlike many fragmented healthcare systems, ODA has meticulously built a 'one-stop-shop' model where patients can access primary medical care, behavioral health services, dental care, nutrition counseling, and pharmacy services—often under one roof and always through a closely coordinated care team. This eliminates the significant barriers to access that many low-income, uninsured, and immigrant populations face when navigating complex healthcare systems.\n\nODA's expertise lies in serving marginalized communities, including a large Latino, Hasidic Jewish, and Eastern European population. The staff is not only medically proficient but also culturally and linguistically attuned, with services provided in English, Spanish, Russian, Polish, and Yiddish. This cultural competency is not an add-on but a core operational principle, fostering trust and ensuring effective communication. The network is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look-Alike, a designation that underscores its commitment to serving medically underserved areas and populations, and it operates on a sliding fee scale based on family size and income.\n\nWhat gives ODA its unique value proposition is the seamless integration of its three core service pillars: Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Dental Care. A patient managing diabetes, for instance, can see their primary care provider, receive nutritional counseling, consult with a psychiatrist for co-occurring depression, and get dental care to manage related oral health issues—all within the same trusted organization. This model improves health outcomes, enhances patient convenience, and reduces overall healthcare costs by preventing complications and hospitalizations.\n\nFurthermore, ODA distinguishes itself through its robust support services and community programming. This includes dedicated insurance enrollment assisters, case management, health education workshops, and outreach programs that actively meet people where they are. The organization functions not just as a clinic but as a vital community institution, advocating for health equity and addressing social determinants of health. Its longevity, born from a genuine community arts initiative, has fostered deep, generational trust. In a competitive NYC healthcare landscape, ODA’s combination of integrated care, cultural humility, unconditional access, and its foundational history as a community-born organization makes it an indispensable and distinctive healthcare provider, dedicated to building a healthier Brooklyn for everyone.

I've been a patient at ODA Primary Health Care Network since around 2005, and I can confidently say it's one of the best healthcare experiences I've ever had. This clinic has been my family's go-to for primary care, pediatrics, and urgent needs, and the level of care has consistently been outstanding. My primary doctor, Dr. David Landerer, is truly phenomenal. Over the years, we've built a special, trusting relationship—he truly knows me, understands my "craziness," and always treats me with genuine care, respect, and attentiveness. He listens deeply and prioritizes his patients' well-being in a way that's rare these days. I originally started with Dr. Afshin Shahkoohi, who is also an excellent family doctor (and pediatrician)—he's incredibly popular because everyone loves him and his dedication shines through. He's so busy for good reason; he's phenomenal too! I switched to Dr. Landerer later on, but both are top-tier. The entire staff knows me by name, which makes every visit feel personal and welcoming. When I've needed urgent care, the service has been quick, efficient, and high-quality. A standout is PA Nunez in urgent care—he's amazing, knowledgeable, and truly caring. The urgent care doctors for kids are equally wonderful. My children see Dr. Yana Bron for pediatrics, and she is outstanding—a compassionate, skilled pediatrician who makes both kids and parents feel supported and at ease. The whole team, from doctors to staff, shows genuine care for patients as people, not just cases. It's disappointing to see some negative reviews online, but in my 20+ years here, any minor issue I've encountered with staff has always been handled promptly and professionally through the proper channels. It feels like isolated incidents, and the overall experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I love ODA—the doctors, the staff, the efficiency, and the community feel. If you're looking for compassionate, high-quality, family-centered healthcare in Brooklyn, I highly recommend ODA Primary Health Care Network. They've been a true blessing for me and my family! Thank you, ODA team—you're the best! ❤️

I love the doctors here they’re great the care they provide is top notch, but the wait times are ridiculous and feel sort of selective and discriminatory. I can’t say why it just does. Hopefully wait times are fixed. I don’t want to have to change my son’s pediatrician. Dr.Sitts is amazing and has been nothing but amazing with my family and myself.

The average wait time is almost 2 hours to see a doctor, it does not make any sense! They do have good doctors and that’s why everybody uses them and goes there but they don’t care about their patients experience.

I visited this clinic regarding a sensitive medical concern after being referred by my gynecologist. I had a very distressing experience with Dr. Hammer. He was dismissive and abrupt, made assumptions about my condition without performing a physical exam, and disregarded prior negative test results. When I asked about further testing, he questioned why would I want further testing and stated that what I described to him was a “textbook description” of the viral infection he swore I had. I then asked him "Why would my prior test come back negative if you swear I have that infection?" He suggested it may have been because the technician “had a bad day” or performed the test incorrectly. He also prescribed medication before any test results were available. Two days later, I received a call informing me that all test results came back NEGATIVE. Therefore he was WRONG! Work on your bed side manners..

It is all and only about the money for them. Very elderly sick people spending 3 and a half hours waiting to see a doctor. The doctor who was their said that he will not see the patient because they saw a different doctor the previous week, and that doctor will be at the office later in the day. Then they are informed that they cannot be seen today because 2 doctors cannot bill on the same day for the same patient. (even though the other doctor did not see the patient) The patients' and their health are secondary. The money is first and foremost. The ODA organization she be retired, to put it nicely.
