About

Nestled in the heart of Buffalo's historic Cobblestone District at 285 Delaware Ave, Risa's Deli & Catering stands as a cornerstone of flavor, community, and culinary craftsmanship. For decades, this beloved establishment has been more than just a deli; it is a destination where traditional delicatessen fare meets inventive, high-quality catering, all served with a genuine commitment to the local community. Founded on the principle that great food brings people together, Risa's has built its reputation on consistency, quality ingredients, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like an extension of home.

The history of Risa's Deli is intertwined with the story of Buffalo itself. Established as a family-owned venture, it grew from a humble neighborhood sandwich shop into a full-service deli and premier catering company. The business weathered the economic shifts of the city, becoming a steadfast presence where generations of Buffalonians have gathered for lunch, where downtown professionals have relied on a quick yet exceptional meal, and where families have turned for memorable event catering. Its location on Delaware Avenue places it at the crossroads of Buffalo's business, cultural, and residential life, making it a daily hub of activity.

The mission of Risa's Deli & Catering is elegantly straightforward: to provide outstanding food and service that enhances everyday moments and celebrates life's special occasions. This mission is executed through a relentless focus on scratch-made quality. The kitchen operates on the belief that details matter—from sourcing the freshest local produce and meats whenever possible, to crafting their own soups, salads, and dressings daily. Their expertise lies in mastering the classics—overstuffed sandwiches on freshly baked bread, hearty soups, and crisp salads—while also possessing the culinary versatility to create customized catering menus for events ranging from corporate board meetings to lavish weddings.

What truly sets Risa's apart is its unique value proposition, which rests on three pillars: authenticity, flexibility, and deep-rooted community connection. In an age of fast-casual chains, Risa's maintains an authentic deli experience, with counter service characterized by friendly staff who know regulars by name. Their catering division is not an afterthought but a core competency, offering a level of personal consultation and menu flexibility rarely found in larger, impersonal catering firms. They pride themselves on working within a client's vision and budget to create a tailored experience, whether it's a simple boxed lunch delivery for 20 or a plated dinner for 200.

Furthermore, Risa's distinguishes itself through its embodiment of Buffalo's resilient and hearty spirit. The menu features nods to local favorites, and the business actively participates in and supports community events, charities, and the revitalization of downtown Buffalo. The ambiance of the deli itself, often bustling with a mix of construction workers, suited attorneys, and families, reflects the city's diverse character. This isn't a generic eatery; it's a Buffalo institution where the food has soul, and the service has heart. Their commitment to being a reliable, quality-driven provider for both daily sustenance and grand celebrations has cemented their status as a trusted partner in the region's food scene. In a competitive landscape, Risa's Deli & Catering remains a cut above by never compromising on the fundamentals of good food, genuine service, and community pride.

Traveled to Buffalo from out of town & when I overslept & missed hotel’s breakfast, it turned into the happiest accident I ever could have hoped for. Found Risa’s on quick google search , walked over from the Aloft & thought I was in the wrong spot - no, Risas is inside the building. The absolute BEST matzoh ball soup I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying in my entire life. So flavorful, authentic, especially because Risa was quite literally making her handmade Matzoh Balls when we walked in. Friendly service & cozy atmosphere. Loved it so much we came back day 2 & took a cup for the road & a bowl to keep in the fridge for the weekend. Thank you Risa for the most warming bowl of soup that was clearly made with lots of love. Sincerely, Someone far from home who really needed a hug in a bowl.

The matzo ball soup is like a big warm hug and can probably cure most diseases. About as authentic as you can get in Buffalo.

I have lived in Buffalo since 2008, after having moved here from the lower east side of New York City. I only recently discovered Risa's after searching for authentic Jewish Delis in Buffalo, which are almost non-existent. I stopped by Risa's this morning for a lox and cream cheese bagel, and was not disappointed. I was fortunate enough to meet Risa, the friendly and engaging owner, and daughter of the founder. The offerings are varied, and the deli is clean, bright and inviting. Can't wait to go back and try some of Risa's other specialtes! Steve K

Our office stumbled across Risa's while searching another restaurant in the area. The next day we ordered lunch. All of us loved our soup, sandwiches, and wraps! I mentioned to Risa that this was our first time ordering from her and she called later in the afternoon to ask how we all enjoyed our meals. I told her we for sure will be ordering from her again!

Risas is a great little Jewish soup & sandwich soup located in the back side of 285 Delaware. It's easy to miss as there are no signs from the front, but it's been there forever. They have a great selection of soup and sandwiches, with matzo ball soup and sweet & south cabbage soup being standouts. Their pastrami sandwich is also thinly sliced & fresh.
