I was referred to Dental Specialties by my dentist due to a fractured molar. The first time I went there, it was extremely crowded. After waiting for an extended period of time, I opted to rebook and return on a day when I could be the first patient. Upon returning, I was greeted by the staff and the doctor was extremely professional. During the next visit, the extraction was performed. I was offered a warm blanket when I asked if I could get my jacket that was hanging on the door. Dr. Choo ensured that I was comfortable throughout and at the end of the procedure, the dental assistant gently wiped my face with a warm cloth. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge Aiesha and Norma. They were both positive, professional, and friendly on the phone and in person. I have interacted with Aiesha during subsequent visits and her goal was always to respond to any questions I had and address my needs in a timely manner. Finally, I did extensive research before the procedure and their rates are BEYOND reasonable. An office in Tribeca that was also listed as a participating provider quoted me a price of literally more than 7 TIMES what I will pay at Dental Specialties for an implant! The office is clean and I received quality service. I have already recommended them to family and friends. Get an early appointment and arrive before your scheduled time. It's worth it. Thank you Dental Specialties of NY! A+

They stated I would have to pay 500 before the consultation even happened, booked the wrong appointment for me and then denied services because I wouldn’t provide my social. Keep reading for more details. Genuinely cannot speak of the services because I didn’t make it past the front desk. I called to make an appointment of consultation (I already had the referral) the lady I spoke with on the phone, told me I’d have to pay at most $500 co-pay (I don’t have a co pay or deductible). I asked what the charge was for she said medications they would need to prescribe at the appointment (the names she stated were over the counter meds I could get at the pharmacy). Additionally, they didn’t even see me yet and didn’t have my insurance information to see if I would need to pay anything. Once I gave the insurance info, she called back 2 hours later to say I don’t have a co-pay but that at the consultation I would be told if I needed to pay out of pocket. When I showed up for the appointment front desk staff was very helpful and nice, they are paperless and I had issues with the forms “required” questions to move forward. Legally I’m not required to provide my social and I don’t have secondary dental but it’s required here to move forward. Now the front desk helped with this but also bypassed me adding my medical insurance which I would’ve needed for the procedure and ended up needing to be fixed later. Then when taking my ID, dental card and referral they informed me I was booked for the wrong appointment and had to make another appointment. Fine, I made the appointment and they stated everything in the system was good and I could come in for the appointment the next day for the specialist and check in that I’m here. I came back for the appointment checked in, they said I’m all good. Then 45 mins after my appointment time I have 2 people still in front of me, they called me back to front desk to say they were reviewing my information again and noticed I didn’t provide a social. I’m providing everything you need to actually bill for insurance purposes and not providing the social at a dentist office has never been a problem, but you also stated I was already good yesterday and earlier. Now I cannot move forward unless I provide it. Upon speaking with the manager to ask why it’s required, I was told it’s policy and that for any discrepancy issues later, they require it. Yes again not legally required by law, you don’t need the social to bill the insurance when I’ve literally giving you the insurance information and you’ve taken the picture for your system. She said it’s their policy. When I asked to see the policy she said it’s not in the financial agreement but would get the paper. It was typed on Google or word and printed out. I wish I took a picture to attach it was not on letter head, no company logo, there was nothing stating that this was a location based decision or managerial decision. Just cannot move forward if you don’t provide it that’s the policy. It’s just frustrating because I was already here for the wrong appointment and you already told me I was good. If they had caught it when I was first there and stated I couldn’t move forward without it fine no harm no foul. But to come back twice, I still need the procedure done and now I have to look for another location and use more sick time because I was told they would very likely do the extraction at the appointment since I already had the scans needed called off sick for the rest of the day, only to be denied services. As of April 2026, no where on their website does it state that SSN’s are required for services and it should be listed at a part of the first visit items if they are requiring the information at registration. Gave a 2 because they were very respectful and nice and it’s not their fault that overhead doesn’t have a written policy to provide patients on this matter.

Today I had a very disappointing experience at Dental Specialties located at 301 E. Gun Hill Rd in the Bronx. I was referred there by my main dentist for a gum treatment consultation. I arrived before 1 PM for my appointment and ended up spending over 5 hours in the office for a consultation that lasted less than 10 minutes. After waiting about 2 hours, I was called in for additional X-rays even though I had already brought recent X-rays from my dentist. The dental assistant, Liana, who handled the X-rays, came across as very unwelcoming, rude, and unprofessional during the interaction. She then told me they were cleaning a room and that I would see the dentist in “5 minutes.” Those 5 minutes turned into another 2-hour wait. Once I was finally placed in a room, I still had to wait an additional 30 minutes for Dr. Alan Pernikoff. The consultation itself was extremely short. I was told I needed a procedure costing around $10,000, which my insurance does not cover and is simply not affordable for me at this time. Overall, I feel like I wasted more than 5 hours there only to be charged through my insurance for another set of X-rays and a consultation that led nowhere financially realistic for me. I understand medical treatments can be expensive, but the excessive wait time, poor communication, and lack of professionalism made this a very frustrating experience.

My experience here was less than ideal. My dentist referred me here to get my wisdom teeth out. My original appointment was in February, I was expecting to get it done then but after they took my xrays they couldn't move forward with the operation because my bottom wisdom teeth needed something specifically done (Partial removal) which had to be approved by my insurance. (Granted that isnt on them but I already had xrays and why didn't I get a consultation before this so my time wasn't wasted;if I even needed one). Now its May. I go in yesterday for the operation (which I have confirmed the date on numerous occasions) only to walk in and be asked "Oh nobody called you to reschedule?"; and that NO DOCTORS were in that day. No call, no communication whatsoever. I am a Bus Operator in my first year. It was extremely difficult to coordinate this time off. And I had already bought groceries in preparation for my recovery time. The incompetence is unacceptable and I wouldn't trust these people preforming SURGERY on me now, and Im definitely not rescheduling because I don't trust this to not happen again. Definitely recommend elsewhere.

I have been waiting for 30min for my 1:30pm appointment. When askes how much longer, receptionist tells me that I have 4 people ahead of me for a root canal. I decided to read the reviews and this is consistent here when coming for a root canal. So if that is what you are coming for ask your dentist to refer you somewhere else. I will update this with the time I was seen and any other details. I was seen 3 and a half hrs later. Horrible experience. To bad I can't give zero stars.
