About

Nestled at the heart of New York City's Upper East Side at 949 Park Ave, 949 Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics stands as a premier destination for pediatric oral health, redefining dental care for children through a unique fusion of sophistication, advanced technology, and unwavering compassion. Led by Dr. Barry Jacobson, a pioneering figure in pediatric dentistry with over 30 years of experience, this practice has established itself as a beacon for families seeking exceptional care tailored to their child's individuality. From its inception, 949 Pediatric Dentistry has been driven by a profound mission: to transform routine dental visits into exciting adventures that foster lifelong habits of oral health while delivering cutting-edge treatments in a child-centric environment. What began as a commitment to compassionate pediatric dentistry has evolved into a comprehensive hub offering both dentistry and orthodontics under one roof, eliminating the hassle of multiple specialists and ensuring seamless, integrated care.[2][1]

The history of 949 Pediatric Dentistry is rooted in Dr. Jacobson's decades-long dedication to pediatric patients, bringing expertise honed over more than three decades to a practice that prioritizes the unique needs of children from infancy through adolescence. This longevity underscores their reliability and deep understanding of developmental dental issues, positioning them as trusted partners for generations of New York families. The mission extends beyond mere treatment; it's about empowering parents and children with knowledge on prevention, cultivating confidence through positive experiences, and preventing future complications with proactive strategies. Their philosophy emphasizes that a child's smile is a source of joy, and they partner closely with families to nurture healthy, confident grins in a warm, welcoming space designed specifically for young patients.[1][2]

Services at 949 Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics are remarkably comprehensive, encompassing preventive care such as fluoride treatments, dental sealants, cleanings, exams, and whitening; restorative options including BPA-free ceramic fillings, crowns, porcelain and ceramic fillings crafted with 3D CAD/CAM technology; emergency dental services; cosmetic enhancements like ICON white spot removal; sedation and sleep dentistry for anxious children; laser dentistry; special needs dentistry; and a full spectrum of orthodontics including Phase 1 and Phase 2 treatments, Invisalign, aligners, expanders, retainers, and mouthguards. This integrated model means pediatric dentistry and orthodontics collaborate fluidly, crafting personalized treatment plans that address both immediate and long-term needs, all while using the safest, most biocompatible materials to safeguard overall health.[5][2][1]

The expertise of the team, spearheaded by board-certified pediatric dentists like Dr. Julie Wee alongside Dr. Jacobson, shines through their specialized handling of fearful or anxious children via desensitization, behavior management, and sedation options. They employ state-of-the-art tools like digital scans, 3D imaging, and laser procedures for precise, minimally invasive care, ensuring comfort and superior outcomes. Pediatric sleep apnea therapies and soft tissue procedures further highlight their holistic approach, tackling not just dental but related health concerns.[3][6][2]

What truly sets 949 Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics apart is their unique value proposition: a sophisticated, architecturally designed office that feels like a modern art gallery rather than a clinical space. Colorful murals, interactive displays, and kid-friendly technology turn appointments into delightful escapades, reducing anxiety and building excitement. Unlike traditional practices, they focus on prevention to minimize invasive interventions, educate families on hygiene, and provide everything—from routine check-ups to complex orthodontics—in one convenient location. This 'under one roof' convenience, combined with a relentless emphasis on biocompatibility and child psychology, distinguishes them in a competitive Manhattan landscape. Their 4.6-star rating from 177 reviews on platforms like Birdeye reflects glowing patient feedback on the decor, gentle care, and transformative experiences.[4][2]

Today was the first visit for an orthodontist consultation for my nine year old daughter with Dr. Helen Weinberg and my daughter felt at ease within minutes. The office is very modern and her staff is friendly. Dr. Helen Weinberg took the time to explain exactly what the issues and recommendations are and why she recommends her process over others. I felt confident with her explanations. My daughter is looking forward to going back in a few months to begin phase 1 for images and records. Thanks for making today a great experience!

Dr.wee made my son (age 5) feel totally comfortable and at ease and talked him through everything she was going to do throughout his teeth cleaning visit. And my older child also enjoyed her gentle touch as well. The office was clean and delightful as well. 5 stars.

I’ve been to half a dozen pediatrics dentist in the city and have had all sorts of experiences, but none like 949 - I was AMAZED, from the person I talked to on the phone, to the front desk staff, to the assistant staff, everyone was so pleasant and so nice. My daughter had 2 cavities filled, it has been a stressful process finding someone who takes our insurance, 949 was great, efficient but not rushed. They know what they’re doing and know how to be helpful with kids in the office. Highly highly recommend and we are officially switching over all our kids to 949!!

My wife and I were excited to bring my daughter in for her first dentist visit after she turned 1. The had to reschedule our initial appointment because of an emergency but they were able to accommodate us the following week for a makeup. When we got there, they we were told to sit down and it will be a few minutes. After 30+ minutes and realizing they double booked us, we were told there was an emergency that they needed to handle first. After an hour waiting and a fussy 1yr old, we left since it didn’t seem they cared or would be done anytime soon. They did not let us know ahead of time they were running late and only after we asked for an update did they tell us they had an emergency. We left very frustrated by the experience. We set up another visit a year later for my daughter first visit again and the day of was told they had to cancel us. I would not recommend this place to anyone as they have been nothing but unprofessional and unable to even see the dentist 3 times now! A complete waste of time

It’s been a while since our last visit but I just realized I never gave my full honest review. When I first started taking my kids here it went great. We were first seen by Dr. Lee. She was wonderful so I thought this is going to be a great experience and decided to get my kids braces here. Boy I was WRONG this place was terrible absolutely terrible they switched “owners” SEVERAL times during treatment so we had different Doctors see us all the time. They also stopped taking our insurance and there is not enough time in the world for me to say how AWFUL TERRIBLE the billing was it was just nightmare after nightmare not to mention the last Dr we saw ( I don’t remember her name) was so rude. She seemed very unfriendly and made my kid feeel very uncomfortable. I will never recommend this place nor will I ever go back. All in all it seemed as if they only wanted patience from the area ( their people) if you know you know.
