Customer Reviews
Dr. Chang won’t ignore issues even if it might hurt the patients feelings. I had a filling done 6 months ago at a different dentist and he correctly flagged it as growing under the filling. Thanks to him not being afraid to flag it, he was able to address before it progressed further. He showed me the cavity under the filling prior to cleaning it which helped me know for sure I made the right choice.
Do NOT go to this dentist! I never write google reviews, but I have to because of this awful experience. He was so rude, condescending and rushed. He told me I had 5 cavities - I got a second opinion and turns out I had 0! I am not sure if he was trying to scam me or just incompetent.
I’ve been meaning to leave this review for a long time and the fact that I’m circling back years later shows you how bad this experience was. This dentist should lose his license. He falsely told me I needed 5 cavities filled and “filled” 3 of them in our first visit. But when he did the fillings, he messed up my novocaine shot and I got a huge bruise on my face for 2 weeks.
Highly suspicious after that, I went back to my family dentist who took new X-rays that shows I had NO cavities and the spots Dr Chang had filled were just natural dips in my teeth! He was just trying to take advantage of my insurance coverage which I had newly acquired that year.
Beyond that, he had no receptionist, called me stupid while checking my insurance policy, and was a straight up jerk. I still remember this awful experience to this day and talk about it with my current (much better) dentists.
Needless to say I never went back and you shouldn’t either.
My husband was experiencing dental pain and made an appointment through Zocdoc for this dentist 2-3 days prior because the app showed that Dr. Chang accepted his insurance. When my husband arrived for his scheduled visit, he was informed by Dr. Chang himself that he did not accept his insurance, and because Dr. Chang had to pay ZocDoc a fee for appointments made through them, he charged my husband $90 for literally doing nothing and not providing him care at all. Reminder: This was NOT a last-minute cancellation. My husband scheduled in advance, showed up as scheduled, and was ONLY THEN informed that they did not accept his insurance!
I contacted Dr. Chang personally inquiring about this fee and he stated that my husband should have called his office to make sure they accept his insurance and that he would only refund the fee if ZocDoc communicated to him that they would waive the per appointment charge to him. FYI not only had we tried to call to confirm the appointment but my husband had in fact tried to visit physically the day before to talk to them and get the paperwork in advance, but his office was closed. When you call you never get a person and instead have to leave a message in hopes that someone will call you back.
I work in a medical office and in my office we not only confirm our patients insurance, but do our due diligence to make sure that if a patient has insurance we do not accept we communicate that with them in advance and even offer them alternatives for how they can be cared for. Dr. Chang made no such efforts and neither did his office staff.
When we contacted Zocdoc to explain what had occurred they informed us that Dr. Chang charging their patients a $90 fee in this circumstance was in violation of their policies for providers and they opened a case to investigate his policies/practices. According to Zocdoc, the fee that each provider pays for using their service covers not only scheduling costs, but marketing/ads, their website/profile, online scheduling capabilities/tools and managing reviews among other services and by no means should be charged to a prospective patient in this type of circumstance.
Ultimately we are out the $90 but I sincerely hope before visiting this practice patients do their research because Dr. Chang and his staff will not. They are not doing their due diligence as dental care providers who participate with insurance, they are not forthcoming, they do not call to confirm your appointment, and are all too happy to inform you they don’t accept your insurance/can’t see you and then charge you a fee for the inconvenience of having been on their schedule in the first place.
This is not the way you handle patient communication, not the way that you provide care to people in need, and not the way you run a practice. Taking money from people in pain for providing literally no services at all when the patient shows up and is not at fault is deplorable. It’s akin to kicking someone while they are down and stealing their wallet and in this case that’s exactly what Dr. Chang did.
I've never actually felt the need to write a negative review about someone until visiting Michael Chang's office. I booked an appointment with him through ZocDoc under the false information that my insurance provider was accepted at his practice. When I arrived, he informed me that it was actually not accepted and charged $90 to my card for a "booking cancellation fee" without providing any service and blaming the booking site. ZocDoc informed me that he was using false advertising and their team would be contacting him immediately to take his information off the site.
When I attempted to resolve the dispute with him in person, he insulted me by asking me if I "knew how to read English" and "who the hell I thought I was." It's one thing to have an issue over a charge - that happens all the time in business. But to handle it in such an unprofessional, deceitful, and standoffish way really shows the character of the man.
Chang undoubtedly has impressive credentials, but being a good person is not one of them. Please take heed of this negative review and all the others and look elsewhere for your dental needs.
