About

FiDi Endodontics, located at 111 John Street, Suite 530 in New York, NY 10038, stands as a premier endodontic practice in the heart of Manhattan's Financial District. Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of dental pulp and surrounding tissues, this practice has established itself as a trusted referral center for root canal therapy and advanced endodontic procedures since its founding in 2016. Led by the highly skilled Dr. Lawrence Tam, who has been in private practice since 2009, FiDi Endodontics was born from his commitment to delivering exceptional, painless care to patients facing complex dental issues. Dr. Tam, fluent in Cantonese and English, has built enduring relationships with referring dentists throughout the New York area, fostering a collaborative approach that prioritizes patient outcomes and seamless communication between providers.[1][3][4]

The mission of FiDi Endodontics is rooted in preserving natural teeth through cutting-edge, minimally invasive techniques, ensuring patients experience minimal discomfort while achieving long-term oral health. This patient-centered philosophy is evident in every aspect of the practice, from the welcoming first-visit protocols—where patients are asked to arrive 15 minutes early with referral cards, insurance details, photo ID, and medication lists—to the use of state-of-the-art technology like operating microscopes, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), ultrasonics, and digital imaging. These tools enable precise diagnostics and treatments, setting a new standard for endodontic care in a fast-paced urban environment conveniently accessible via subway lines 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J, and Z.[1][3][4]

Complementing Dr. Tam is the talented Dr. Angela Wu, a board-certified endodontist who graduated with high honors from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2016, earning induction into the prestigious OKU National Dental Honor Society. She completed her endodontic specialization at the same institution, honing expertise in both surgical and non-surgical root canal therapies. Dr. Wu's proficiency with advanced modalities underscores the practice's dedication to excellence. Similarly, Dr. Hu brings extensive training in root canal therapy, retreatments, endodontic surgery, and trauma management, leveraging 3D CBCT scanning and digital imaging for superior precision and patient comfort. As an active member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), Dr. Hu exemplifies the practice's emphasis on continuous professional development and contributions to the field.[4]

FiDi Endodontics offers a comprehensive suite of services tailored to address a wide range of endodontic needs. Core treatments include non-surgical root canal therapy, retreatments for previously treated teeth, apical microsurgery, and internal bleaching for discolored teeth post-treatment. The practice excels in managing traumatic dental injuries and complex cases requiring surgical intervention, all performed under magnification with operating microscopes to ensure the highest success rates. Patients benefit from a full spectrum of care, including diagnostic cone beam CT (3D scanning) for accurate visualization of tooth anatomy, which minimizes risks and enhances predictability.[3][4][5]

What truly sets FiDi Endodontics apart is its unique value proposition: a blend of technological sophistication, compassionate expertise, and unwavering focus on patient education and comfort. Unlike general dental practices or less specialized providers, FiDi Endodontics operates exclusively in endodontics, allowing for hyper-focused mastery and outcomes that preserve natural dentition for life. The team's fluency in multiple languages, combined with transparent communication with referring dentists, eliminates barriers and builds trust. Operating Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Fridays until 5:00 PM, the practice accommodates busy New Yorkers with efficient scheduling and a straightforward appointment request process. Insurance verification is streamlined, with a dedicated list of accepted plans, making high-quality care accessible without undue financial burden.[1][3]

In an era where tooth extraction is too often the default, FiDi Endodontics champions conservation, empowering patients to retain their natural smiles. Dr. Tam's passion for lifelong learning ensures the practice stays at the forefront of innovations, while the doctors' personal interests—such as Dr. Tam's love for dentistry, Dr. Wu's academic rigor, and Dr. Hu's tennis, guitar playing, and travel—infuse the office with warmth and relatability. Testimonials and referrals affirm their reputation for stellar care, positioning FiDi Endodontics not just as a clinic, but as a beacon of hope for those seeking painless, effective solutions to save their teeth. Whether facing acute pain, failed prior treatments, or surgical needs, patients at FiDi Endodontics receive world-class endodontics in a supportive, modern setting that redefines the root canal experience.[1][3][4][5] (Word count: 728)

I just had a root canal re-treatment with Dr. Wu. She is the nicest, kindest and most talented dentist I have ever met. She explained everything in detail when I had my initial consultation and clearly answered all my questions. She is so gentle and the procedure was so painless, that I almost fell asleep as she worked. The entire office staff is also first rate. This is a totally patient centered dental practice, they do everything they can to make you feel comfortable and very well cared for. There was even some very soothing bird chirping sounds playing as Dr. Wu did the root canal. I feel so very fortunate, that I found this incredibly wonderful office and these kind and talented dentists. Ten stars for Dr. Wu and FiDi Endodontics.

It was amazing. I came in with a root canal that was attempted at a dentist office and it was a pretty traumatic experience. I searched for a specialist for a while before coming here. Initially it was going to be a consultation and I ended up coming back for the procedure after lunch time. Everything went really well considering how terrified I was of getting it done. I felt NO PAIN. Post root canal ( now- 5 days later) the healing has no pain. I haven’t had to take anything for this the entire time. Doctor and nurses here are really sweet! I would HIGHLY recommend. They took insurance and I had no outrageous fees like my first attempt. Really happy to have had such a high quality experience, this really changes the narrative for dental trauma!! I’ve also got direct recommendations for a dentist. Thank you and I will always come to you guys for my serious procedures ❤️ - much love

Having traversed the treacherous terrain of root canals not once, not twice, but thrice under the expert care of Dr. Wu at Fidi Endodontics, I can confidently say she, and this office, is amazing. Yepp - three root canals in three weeks! Dr. Wu's gentle demeanor and soothing words worked wonders in calming my nerves, turning what should have been a wracking experience into a surprisingly serene and simple procedure. Her professionalism made the entire process not only painless but dare I say, slightly enjoyable? The whole staff from start to finish is extremely patient and helpful. I had a lovely time interacting with all the dental assistants as well. I've definitely emerged not only with three successfully treated teeth but also with a newfound appreciation for the artistry of endodontics.

Dr. Tam was thorough and communicated well, but my case was not simple. Update: I appreciate his phone call explain everything he could do. Thank you. (He mentioned that he followed his own treatment algorithm which applies to every patient, and from my perspective it felt like he preferred to focus on certain type of cases.) After checking X-rays, CBCT scan, and probing test, he recommended extraction due to a possible fracture. He also mentioned being concerned about my time and money, which surprised me. Also, he said that he is not sure he can do a better job than the 1st RC. (which is done by the general dentist) (I later learned that even if a root canal appears fine on X-rays or CBCT scans, these images cannot always confirm whether the tooth is biologically infected.) My gum pocket was deep (15mm), and I had a bone loss which is shaped like "J". No pains, no sensitivities. Only a pimple on the gum, pus came out occasionally. He told me that he didn’t feel comfortable attempting retreatment because of the J-shaped bone loss (as I understood it) (From my later research, I learned that J shaped bone loss didn’t always mean fracture, it can be a draining sinus tract or something else. I also learned that the bone can slowly regrow if the retreatment is successful. Through my research, I found that a root fracture cannot be 100% confirmed without extraction; most diagnoses are based on possibilities rather than certainty. Why do I have to know about all these, I wish this had been explained to me more clearly. I hope other patients find this information helpful.) I would have appreciated a clearer discussion of all options up front 1) retreatment 2) attempt to retreatment and extract only if a fracture is confirmed. 3) Proceed directly to extraction. I trusted his professional judgment. I thought he was one of the best Endos in NY from all the great reviews. I proceeded with tooth extraction. Unfortunately, there was no visible fracture was found from outside, and I was devastated and regretted not seeking another opinion first. I regret giving up my tooth without trying retreatment even if the chances of success were low. **My advice: get multiple opinions when facing permanent tooth removal. Your tooth is priceless. Specialists can be uncertain about whether your tooth can be saved. I hope my review can help some people who have a similar case like me. FYI, I asked the receptionist if I could bring recent X-rays, but was told I couldn't, since their policy requires patients should take X-rays in-office. The office could also improve wait times (I waited ~45 minutes past my appointment) and phone/email responsiveness.
