About

Flatiron Family Dental, located at 34 W 17th St Ground Floor, New York, NY 10011, stands as a premier full-service dental practice in the heart of New York City, dedicated to delivering high-quality dental care infused with comfort, luxury, and personalized attention. Founded by the dynamic husband-and-wife team of Dr. Shimonova and Dr. Katz, who first met on the inaugural day of orientation at NYU College of Dentistry, the practice embodies the profound foundation of love, respect, and unwavering commitment to patient well-being. Their shared journey from dental school classmates to professional partners has culminated in a state-of-the-art facility that prioritizes not just oral health but the overall experience of every visitor, transforming routine dental visits into enjoyable encounters akin to catching up with trusted friends.[1][4] The mission of Flatiron Family Dental is clear: to combine cutting-edge dentistry with an atmosphere of luxury and warmth, ensuring patients leave not only with healthier smiles but also with genuine smiles on their faces. This ethos is reflected in their hand-selected professional staff, advanced equipment, and a multidisciplinary approach that keeps nearly all treatments in-house, minimizing referrals and maximizing convenience.[1][2][4] As a comprehensive NYC family dental office, Flatiron Family Dental offers an extensive array of services spanning cosmetic dentistry, general dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, preventative care, emergency dentistry, and specialized treatments like TMJ therapy and sleep apnea management. Their cosmetic dentistry expertise includes smile design, veneers, professional whitening, and bonding, enabling patients to achieve radiant, confidence-boosting smiles. In prosthodontics, they excel in crowns, dental implants, bridges, inlays/onlays, and removable dentures, utilizing top-tier digital imaging and technologies for precise restorations. Orthodontic services feature Invisalign certification, guiding teeth into optimal alignment with clear, discreet aligners worn about 22 hours daily, followed by retainers to maintain results. General dentistry covers routine checkups, cleanings, and fillings, while preventative measures such as sealants, fluoride varnish, and Icon white spot removal safeguard long-term oral health. For urgent needs, emergency services address abscess drainage, swelling, tooth pain, and splinting, providing swift relief. Unique offerings like mandibular advancement for sleep apnea and TMJ therapy further distinguish their holistic care model.[1][2] What truly sets Flatiron Family Dental apart is their unique value proposition: a seamless blend of advanced technology, same-day dentistry capabilities, and an unparalleled patient-centric experience. Leveraging intraoral scanners, 3D printers, and the latest digital tools, they offer same-day crowns, bridges, and restorations, eliminating lab wait times and allowing patients to reclaim their smiles in a single visit—a rarity in traditional dentistry that underscores their commitment to efficiency and convenience.[3] Boasting a brand-new facility equipped with best-in-class instruments, they maintain 100% five-star Google reviews from new and returning patients, with a remarkable recommendation rate from friends and family. Over 10 types of dental services cater to diverse needs, all under one roof, reducing stress and enhancing outcomes.[1] The expertise of Dr. Shimonova and Dr. Katz, honed through years at NYU and subsequent Manhattan practices, emphasizes that dentistry transcends teeth—it's about empowering confident smiles that illuminate rooms. Dr. Shimonova's philosophy encapsulates this: 'Dentistry is about so much more than teeth. A confident smile is so powerful it can light up a whole room. Aside from treating and maintaining oral health, my job is to make you comfortable, make you laugh, and make coming for your checkups as enjoyable as meeting up with a friend.'[1] This relational approach, paired with their evolution from associates to practice owners, positions Flatiron Family Dental as more than a dental office—it's a sanctuary where luxury meets precision dentistry. In a city teeming with dental options, their in-house multidisciplinary prowess, rapid treatment innovations, and heartfelt service elevate them above competitors, fostering loyalty and exceptional results. Whether seeking a routine cleaning, transformative veneers, or emergency intervention, patients at Flatiron Family Dental experience care that is efficient, aesthetically superior, and profoundly human-centered, ensuring optimal oral health and joy in every smile restored.[1][2][3][4] (Word count: 612)

I was skeptical coming to this practice (I had the same dentist for many years but his practice was sold). Dr Katz was recommended by a colleague and I am beyond happy I came here. Dr Katz and his team are amazing. Dr Katz is so talented, funny, gentle and extremely knowledgeable. He took his time. The clinic is clean, modern (best technology) and the staff friendly and accommodating. Their pricing is transparent. Terrific experience. Thank you.

Flatiron Family Dental is truly outstanding. Warm, professional, and genuinely caring from the first hello. Dr. Shimonova explained everything clearly, the treatment was comfortable, and the office is clean, modern, and always on time. This is the first dental practice in years where I actually look forward to my next visit. Highly recommend!

Dr. Katz is by far the best dentist that I have ever been to in my life. He truly listens and takes his time, and he even does the cleanings himself! I’ve had TMJ issues for years, and I’ve mentioned this to other dentists, who didn’t give it a second thought. Dr. Katz actually sat down with me, pointed out that misalignment in my bite may be contributing to my TMJ, and recommended an orthodontist who could use invisalign to try and fix my situation. He was the only dentist to help me connect the dots and identify a real solution. If you want a dentist who genuinely cares and pays attention to what you actually need, go see Dr. Katz!

I appreciated that this office has a family-oriented approach and a welcoming structure. However, I did not appreciate not having all the information upfront. I came here seeking help for an issue that is both painful and affecting how I see myself. When I go to a professional, I expect to feel cared for and fully informed. Instead, I felt more like I’m — receiving information in fragments and soundbites rather than a clear, complete explanation. Even if someone is getting assistance through insurance or otherwise, every patient deserves the same level of care, clarity, and respect. Transparency matters, especially when patients are already feeling vulnerable.

on 10/28/25, when I was seen by Dr. Sh--- , referred by one of the doctors of Diamond Braces, she was initially very nice and informative. But when she used the scraper, she accidentally scraped my top lip. I waited for an apology, and when she didn’t say anything, I gently tapped her hand and let her know what happened. She acknowledged it, but still didn’t apologize. Then, while scraping the inside of my teeth, she poked my gums—it really hurt—but again, no apology. When she finished the cleaning, I brought it up again to make her aware of what she’d done, and her response was, “You’ll be okay…” I just couldn’t understand why she couldn’t simply apologize. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t schedule my next appointment with her.
