About

Grand Oral Surgery Center, located at 217 Grand Street Suite 801 in the heart of New York, NY 10013, stands as a premier destination for oral and maxillofacial surgical care, blending cutting-edge expertise with a profound commitment to patient comfort and family-like treatment. Established by Dr. Howard C. Chi, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, the practice has built a reputation for excellence since Dr. Chi's completion of his specialty residency in 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, affiliated with Seton Hall University Graduate Medical Education, where he served as chief resident.[6][5] Dr. Chi's journey began with double bachelor's degrees in biochemistry and computer science from New York University College of Art and Science in 1995, followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from NYU College of Dentistry in 2005, where he ranked in the top 5% of his class and was inducted into the national dental honor society OKU.[6] Achieving board certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2011, Dr. Chi has since dedicated his career to transforming what can be a daunting dental experience into one marked by kindness, patience, and precision.[6][5]

The mission of Grand Oral Surgery Center is rooted in treating every patient as family, fostering an environment where anxiety gives way to trust and reassurance.[5] From the moment patients step through the door, they are welcomed by a friendly staff that prioritizes open communication, ensuring no hidden fees or surprises in billing—every expense is thoroughly explained upfront.[5] This transparency, combined with a comfortable office setting designed to alleviate the stress of surgical visits, sets the center apart in a field often fraught with apprehension.[5] The practice employs advanced dentistry techniques, with doctors continually pursuing continuing education to deliver innovative yet predictable procedures.[5] State-of-the-art equipment, including digital imaging, HIPAA-compliant software, extensive anesthesia monitoring, and rigorous daily sterilization protocols, underscores their dedication to safety and superior outcomes.[5]

Grand Oral Surgery specializes in a comprehensive array of oral and maxillofacial services, with Dr. Chi's particular passion lying in dental alveolar surgeries—such as extractions and jaw bone-related procedures—dental implants, and office-based sedation.[6] Patient testimonials highlight the center's proficiency in wisdom teeth extractions, often performed swiftly and comfortably, even for multiple teeth at once, with surgeons like Dr. Marc Pan earning praise for their reassuring demeanor and meticulous post-operative guidance.[2] Services extend to oral cancer screenings, ensuring holistic care that addresses both routine and complex needs.[2] What truly distinguishes Grand Oral Surgery is its unique value proposition: a patient-centric approach that humanizes advanced surgery. Unlike larger, impersonal clinics, this boutique practice emphasizes personalized attention, making nerve-wracking procedures painless and efficient—patients report quick appointments, clean facilities near subway stations, and welcoming nurses who expedite care without compromising quality.[8][2]

In a bustling city like New York, where convenience and expertise are paramount, Grand Oral Surgery excels by operating from a prime location in SoHo/Chinatown, complemented by a New Jersey office in Edison for broader accessibility.[7] Reviews consistently affirm the center's 4.0 rating, with patients appreciating surgeons who take time to explain procedures, manage expectations, and deliver excellent results, even amid occasional logistical hiccups like public transit delays.[2] Dr. Chi's kindness shines through, as he understands the trauma many associate with dental visits, tailoring each interaction to maximize comfort.[6] The practice's multi-location model—spanning New York and New Jersey—enhances its reach, while features like sedation options make it ideal for anxious patients seeking wisdom teeth removals, implants, or reconstructive work.[1][7]

What sets Grand Oral Surgery apart from competitors is this seamless fusion of elite credentials, technological prowess, and heartfelt service. While many practices focus solely on technical proficiency, Grand Oral Surgery prioritizes emotional well-being, turning potential ordeals into positive experiences. Their pride in 'advanced dentistry' is not mere rhetoric; it's evidenced by ongoing professional development and a suite of modern tools that ensure predictable, high-quality results.[5] As a family-oriented haven amid urban hustle, the center invites patients to experience oral surgery redefined—efficient, empathetic, and exceptional. Whether facing routine extractions or transformative implants, visitors leave not just treated, but truly cared for, embodying the practice's ethos: you're not just another patient, but part of the family.[5] With a legacy of excellence since 2009 and a forward-looking commitment to innovation, Grand Oral Surgery Center continues to elevate standards in oral and maxillofacial care, making it the go-to choice for New Yorkers seeking unparalleled expertise and warmth.

Guys, I need to tell you about this place. 10/10 service. Dr. Howard Chi and staff were VERY kind, professional and caring. They made my experience wonderful and stress-free. The office is easy to find and located on the 8th floor. I was very glad that they took my insurance and even though I did have to pay a bit because my insurance is kinda selfish I really didn't mind at all because the consult visit made me feel comfortable and sure about this place. The office was clean, staff were always polite and attentive and Dr.Chi has a kind and friendly bedside manner. My insurance took a while to get back to them which I didnt mind but that is something to be considered if you are in immediate pain. Its not their fault, all medical places have to tango with the insurance first. I went to get one of my wisdom teeth removed on 01-09-2026 and I can honestly say that it has healed well to the point where I forgot I even had the surgery last week! 😆 The wait time wasnt long and the procedure went by so fast! One moment he was asking me how I felt after inserting the IV and before I knew what was what they were done! 😂❤️ They prescribed the right amount of medication for me and I can truly say that I hardly experienced any discomfort at all post surgery. Second day was mild soreness but no pain and the medication definitely helped. This was my last extraction but if anyone needs a place for an extraction or any dental work I would DEFINITELY without a doubt recommend this place. 👌 Thank you to everyone at Grand Oral Surgery. 🙏🏽

I just got my wisdom teeth removed today. The surgery was quick. Dr. Pan extracts it before it can actually feel the pain. Overall surgery was not as bad as I thought it would be. Applying anesthesia was my biggest concern, but turns out I felt only little to no pain. All the staff were nice and helpful.

I had a good experience. I got both my bottom wisdom teeth out. Dr. Chi was kind and answered all my questions. My wisdom teeth were impacted, so I got IV sedation. This stuff was good; one second, I was looking at the needle, the next second everything was done. Currently, on my 2nd day, no issue or pain so far. But I guess, this would vary based on the person. Overall, 5 stars.

Had two wisdom teeth removed yesterday & it was quick and easy! Everyone was so nice & comforting, and the surgeon was kind and gentle, and told you everything he was doing as he was doing it which helped with my anxiety. Minimal bleeding and swelling on post op day 1 for me, and I’m more sore than being in any pain pain! For me, I was aware but felt no pain, and if I felt anything they were quick to fix that! My advice is to rest, relax, take the meds they prescribe, and Ice packs :)

I only had weekend availability for wisdom tooth extraction, so Marc Pan was my dentist from consulting to procedure. He was definitely witty but easy to talk to and informative and tells you to be preventive next life time around to get all wisdom teeth out as early as possible. I waited until I fully healed from my extraction site to write a review. Dr.Pan was thorough, the clinic receptionists were friendly enough, very calm interior with a nice view, they have a standing x-ray panoramic in office which was convenient, it took me about 3 weeks to heal, and care instructions were written on a paper which was clear.
