About

The Harlem Center for Aesthetic Dentistry, located at 470 Malcolm X Blvd #1D in New York, NY 10037, stands as a beacon of comprehensive dental care deeply rooted in the heart of Harlem's vibrant community. This family-owned practice traces its origins back over a century, beginning with a modest candy counter that symbolized the entrepreneurial spirit of early Harlem residents. The dental legacy truly took shape in 1956 when Dr. Alberto L. Robertson, a pioneering Black professional in an era of limited opportunities, opened his first dental office above the Regal Shoe Store on the iconic corner of 125th Street and Seventh Avenue—directly across from landmarks like Chock Full o’Nuts and the Hotel Theresa, where figures such as Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and Fidel Castro once gathered. Supported unwaveringly by his wife, Lucille Dixon Robertson—a trailblazing bassist, orchestra leader, and music union board member—the practice embodied integrity, care, and cultural excellence amid Harlem's evolving landscape.[1][6]

In the mid-1980s, after losing the lease on their original space, the Robertson family relocated to Lenox Terrace, marking the birth of what would become the Harlem Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. Far from retreating during the challenging 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s when many businesses fled the neighborhood, the family stayed, expanded, and committed to serving Harlemites in their own community. Today, under the leadership of Dr. Ernest Robertson, the center has blossomed into a state-of-the-art, full-service dental hub. It features an in-house team of specialists including general dentists, a periodontist (Dr. Daniel Narain), an orthodontist (Dr. June Harewood), and cosmetic experts like Dr. Emma J. Guzman, ensuring seamless, comprehensive care without the need for patients to travel outside Harlem.[1][4][6]

The mission of Harlem Center for Aesthetic Dentistry transcends mere oral health; it is dedicated to restoring confidence, dignity, and overall wellness for every patient. Great dentistry, they believe, is about empowering individuals through beautiful, functional smiles that enhance quality of life. This philosophy is woven into every service, from routine preventive care to advanced aesthetic transformations. Their expertise spans general dentistry, restorative procedures, cosmetic enhancements, periodontics, orthodontics, and endodontics, all delivered in a modern, patient-centered clinic designed for comfort and accessibility.[2][3][5][6]

What truly sets Harlem Center for Aesthetic Dentistry apart is its unparalleled unique value proposition: a century-spanning family legacy combined with cutting-edge, specialist-driven care right in the neighborhood. Unlike many practices that refer patients out for specialized treatments, this center offers everything under one roof, fostering continuity and trust. Their deep cultural competence—born from generations of service to Harlem's diverse population—ensures empathetic, tailored care that respects patients' backgrounds, beliefs, and values. This is particularly vital in a community where access to culturally attuned healthcare can make all the difference in treatment adherence and outcomes.[1][5]

The practice's evolution reflects Harlem's resilience. From a single dental chair in the 1950s to a multidisciplinary team today, they have remained steadfast, even expanding during tough times. Patients benefit from extended hours (open six days a week, including Saturdays from 9 AM to 1 PM, and evenings until 8 PM on select days), free onsite parking, and a focus on both health and aesthetics. Whether it's preventive cleanings to halt issues early, orthodontics for aligned smiles, periodontal treatments for gum health, or cosmetic procedures like veneers and whitening, the center prioritizes long-term wellness.[2][4][5]

Dr. Ernest Robertson and his team maintain a comprehensive focus on health and aesthetics, providing outstanding general, restorative, and specialized services. They emphasize patient education, such as tips for children's brushing routines ('If they can walk, they can brush'), underscoring a holistic approach that starts at home. In an industry often fragmented by referrals and impersonal care, Harlem Center distinguishes itself through community loyalty, expert integration, and a genuine commitment to Harlem's legacy. For residents seeking not just a dentist, but a partner in their oral health journey, this practice delivers excellence with heart—proving that world-class dentistry belongs in the neighborhood it serves.[1][3][4][5][6] (Word count: 612)

I certainly appreciate the fact that they showed patience with my tardiness because I got lost. Even though I arrived late to my appointment, I was greeted from the receptionist, to the xray tech, with so much patience and kindlness , that I did not feel as if I was just another number. My consultation with the doctor was pleasant as well as informative. The atmosphere was culture relatable and calming. Glad that they're there.

DO NOT LET THESE REVIEWS FOOL YOU! This office does not follow proper infection control guidelines. They chose to not have bacterial hand soap for MONTHS and rooms aren’t properly disinfected between patients.
