About

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) is one of the nation’s most comprehensive and integrated academic healthcare systems, renowned for its commitment to excellence in patient care, research, education, and community service. Founded through the merger of two historic institutions—New York Hospital, chartered in 1771, and Presbyterian Hospital, founded in 1868—NYP has evolved into a world-class academic medical center with a rich history spanning over 250 years. It serves as the primary teaching hospital for two prestigious medical schools: Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. This unique partnership fosters an environment of cutting-edge medical research, innovative clinical care, and outstanding medical education.

NYP operates across multiple campuses in the New York metropolitan area, including its flagship medical centers, Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medical Center, located on opposite sides of Upper Manhattan. With over 4,000 beds, more than 10,000 affiliated physicians, and approximately 50,000 employees, the hospital manages over 2 million patient visits annually, including nearly 22,000 infant deliveries and over 620,000 emergency department visits. This scale and scope make NYP one of the largest and most comprehensive hospitals in the world.

The hospital’s mission centers on providing the highest quality, compassionate care to patients while advancing medical knowledge through research and education. NYP emphasizes patient-centered care, treating patients as family and fostering an environment of respect, integrity, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement. Its vision is to be a model for clinical quality, service excellence, advanced facilities and technology, and financial viability.

NYP’s expertise spans virtually all areas of medicine, including specialized centers for cardiology, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, and transplant surgery, among others. The hospital is known for assembling multidisciplinary teams that provide coordinated, state-of-the-art care for complex medical conditions. For example, its neonatal and pediatric surgical teams are recognized for handling high-risk deliveries and intricate surgeries with exceptional outcomes.

What sets NewYork-Presbyterian apart is its integration of clinical care with groundbreaking research and education. The hospital’s affiliation with two world-class medical schools enables it to translate scientific discoveries rapidly into innovative treatments. Its commitment to community service and fiscal responsibility ensures that it meets the needs of diverse populations across New York City and beyond.

Over the decades, NYP has continuously expanded and modernized its facilities, including the addition of the Connie M. Guion Building, the C.V. Starr Pavilion for Ambulatory Care, and the Helmsley Medical Tower. These investments support advanced outpatient services, cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, and comfortable patient environments.

In summary, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital stands as a beacon of medical excellence, combining a storied history with a forward-looking approach to healthcare. The truth is that when an institution is made up of people who are really committed to the service and well-being of people, it shows! I filed a complaint with this platform which in less than 24 hours was taken into account and I am quite happy that it was so because it shows that they are people who are at the service of people and willing to improve and maintain the quality in their institution, very good work and I hope that it always stays that way, that they are one of the most prestigious places and with such good human quality, congratulations for your management definitely this hospital has the best manager and people in charge!!!!

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is known for expert care and advanced treatments, but busy environments and occasional long waits can impact patient experience. Overall, highly respected.

I’m extremely disappointed with the care my mother received at this emergency room. She was left alone for over half an hour with no communication about what was happening or what the next steps would be. I tried speaking to four different nurses, and each one told me they were busy and would get back to me—but none of them ever followed through. This kind of neglect and lack of compassion is unacceptable, especially in a setting where people come seeking urgent help. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.

Extremely slow!!! Came in at 2PM & it’s just about midnight now and I have yet to be seen by a Doctor smh Never again! I was told that CT scan results can take anywhere from 2-4 hours. The medical personnel here are literally just dragging their feet and barely doing anything in the emergency department. Absolutely no communication or updates.

Horrible treatment on 9/16 I came to this hospital waited 3 hours and more to be seen. On 9/17 I was seen in the ER the nurse was horrible. I was left with an empty IV drip for a while. She dismissed me when I was seeking some assistance. That nurse knew I was pregnant. She didn’t even bother to check in once in a while. I seen people wait 2 hours for discharge papers.
