About

Open Bright Pediatric Dentistry, located at 20 E 110th St, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10029, stands as a beacon of compassionate, high-quality pediatric dental care in the heart of Harlem, just east of Central Park and off the corner of 110th Street and Madison Avenue. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Laurie Hyacinthe, a trailblazing Black woman dentist whose passion for the field ignited at age five during her own dental visit, the practice was born from her lifelong dedication to transforming dental experiences for children. Dr. Laurie graduated from McGill University in 2004 with her dental degree and has since built a career emphasizing sedation, trauma care, esthetics, and care for anxious young patients and those with special needs. Over the past decade-plus, she has served underserved communities, collaborating with local health professionals to address broader wellness issues, embodying a holistic approach that views dentistry as integral to overall child development.[5][1]

The mission of Open Bright Pediatric Dentistry is clear and inspiring: to make dental visits a fun, educational, and stress-free journey for infants, children, adolescents, and those with special healthcare needs, fostering a lifetime of healthy smiles. Guided by the core values of G.R.A.C.E.—Genuine, Respectful, Altruistic, Compassionate, and Exceptional—the practice prioritizes every child's unique needs with an abundance of kindness and a personal touch. As a Black woman-owned business, Open Bright takes immense pride in serving its Harlem community and neighbors, creating an inclusive space where every smile is welcome. This commitment to accessibility is evident in their convenient location, flexible scheduling for emergencies, and efforts to remove barriers to care, such as accepting most major dental plans and offering affordable membership plans for uninsured families.[1][3][5]

Services at Open Bright are comprehensive and child-centered, beginning with preventative care like regular checkups, professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, and educational sessions on brushing, flossing, and healthy eating habits. For anxious patients, they provide gentle laughing gas and sedation options, ensuring safety through thorough health evaluations and close monitoring—ideal for children with dental anxiety, low pain thresholds, extensive treatment needs, or difficulty sitting still. The practice excels in managing dental traumas and accidents with fast, friendly emergency appointments. Specialized care extends to children with autism, diverse healthcare needs, craniofacial anomalies, and special needs, delivered by a highly trained team including board-certified pediatric dentists.[1][2][4][7][8]

The expertise of the team sets Open Bright apart. Dr. Laurie Hyacinthe leads with her gentle, reassuring approach, complemented by specialists like Dr. Liana, who earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Columbia University and completed advanced pediatric dentistry residency at NYU Langone Hospital, Brooklyn, as Chief Resident. Her skills span preventive care, cavity treatments, sedation, special needs dentistry, cosmetic restorations, and trauma care. Dr. Pablo, another board-certified pediatric dentist, brings his New York University DDS and NYU Langone residency experience, with a focus on behavior management, minimally invasive dentistry, and empathetic care for anxious children from his background in a Colombian healthcare family. Together, they tailor each visit, using child-friendly explanations to build trust and make procedures engaging.[4][5]

What truly distinguishes Open Bright is its unique value proposition: a family-like atmosphere where patients are treated as family from the first visit. Unlike traditional dental offices that may feel intimidating, Open Bright transforms appointments into positive, joyful encounters—starting with thorough exams, cleanings, and fun oral hygiene lessons during first visits. Their emphasis on community impact, as a woman-owned practice serving Harlem, combined with top-tier training from prestigious institutions like Columbia, NYU, and McGill, ensures exceptional outcomes. Safety and comfort reign supreme, with rigorous sterilization protocols and sedation guidelines. Flexible financing, insurance verification, and an affordable membership plan make premium care accessible. In a field often marked by fear, Open Bright nurtures confidence, health, and joy, one smile at a time, proving that pediatric dentistry can be empowering and fun. Whether it's a baby's first tooth or a teen's checkup, Open Bright delivers personalized excellence that builds lifelong habits and bright futures.[1][2][3][4][5][7]

My 14 month old daughter seen Dr. Laurie today and it was an amazing experience. When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely receptionist who got us checked in right away. I liked that she scheduled our next check up during check in (such a time saver!). The sitting area is very very clean amd kid friendly. The space is very inviting. My daughter played with other children in a play area and we were called right away. The dental assistant was very polite and greeted us before providing helpful tips to keep out little mouth healthy. He even went to open the door for my husband to get into the building (very above and beyond service). Dr. Laurie came in educated us and performed the exam. We were very pleased with the experience. I shared with my colleague at work to bring her baby.

Great staff, doctor, and facility! They even have giant dinosaurs with big toothbrushes that make kids feel comfortable. The doctor and staff speak to children in a way they understand, so my 2-year-old son—who was visiting the dentist for the very first time—was able to get an X-ray, flossing, and teeth cleaning with no fear. I’m so happy we found such an awesome and reliable pediatric dental office. Honestly, if it weren’t just for kids, I would want to be treated here myself!

What an incredible experience! The moment you walk in you are greeted with such warm and welcoming smiles and beautiful decor. My niece was very nervous but they handled her so well. If you have a kid that is nervous about the dentist office, they will make your kid feel comfortable while also educating them on the importance of good dental hygiene. The entire team was kind, patient and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this office, it’s worth visiting.

I most appreciated that it felt like they thought through every aspect of the patient and parent experience. The space is beautiful, and everything is new. The waiting room is equipped with a projector game that kids can play by stamping their feet. Every patient has their own room. Each room is spacious and has plenty of natural light. During the cleaning there are tvs on the ceiling to entertain, and headphones and sunglasses. There’s a bench for the waiting parent. They have a hand-held X-ray machine so there’s no big intimidating machines. My child had cavities. They clearly explained what my insurance covers and what my responsibility would be. We opted for laughing gas because my son is young. It was not very expensive and made the experience really smooth. The hygienist, front desk, and dentist were all top notch. Every part of the patient experience was thought of. Highly recommend for young kids.

Great first dental visit for my child. The dentist and staff were very attentive, the space is bright with a nice play area, and there was no wait time. The dentist also took plenty of time to provide tips on dental hygiene despite a less-than-cooperative toddler. Highly recommend.
