About

Park South Dental, under the expert care of Dr. Phillip H. Lam, DMD, stands as a cornerstone of comprehensive oral healthcare in the Bronx community. For decades, this trusted practice has been located at 1530 Unionport Road, serving the diverse families and individuals of Parkchester, Unionport, and surrounding neighborhoods with a commitment to clinical excellence, compassionate patient relationships, and accessible, high-quality dental services. While the precise founding date of Dr. Lam's tenure at this location is not publicly documented, the practice has built a long-standing reputation as a reliable, family-oriented dental home, weathering the changes of the community while consistently investing in modern technology and continuing education to provide care that meets contemporary standards.

The core mission of Park South Dental is to enhance the health, confidence, and well-being of every patient through personalized, gentle, and effective dental care. Dr. Lam and his team operate on the fundamental belief that oral health is intrinsically linked to overall systemic health and quality of life. This philosophy drives a patient-first approach where treatment plans are not one-size-fits-all but are tailored to individual needs, anxieties, financial considerations, and long-term health goals. The practice strives to demystify dentistry, taking time to educate patients, discuss all available options, and empower them to make informed decisions about their care in a no-pressure environment.

What truly sets Park South Dental apart is its unique blend of old-fashioned patient-doctor rapport and modern dental technology. In an era of fast-paced, corporate dental chains, Dr. Lam's practice maintains the feel of a traditional neighborhood dental office, where staff know patients by name, recall personal details, and foster a warm, welcoming atmosphere that actively works to alleviate dental anxiety. This is complemented by a commitment to incorporating advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies where they genuinely improve outcomes and patient comfort. The practice's expertise spans the full spectrum of general and restorative dentistry, with a particular focus on addressing the comprehensive needs of families—from a child's first check-up to complex restorative work for seniors.

The team's expertise is rooted in Dr. Lam's professional training and dedication to lifelong learning. As a Doctor of Dental Medicine, his approach is holistic, considering the mouth's relationship to the entire body. The practice specializes in preventive care, aiming to intercept problems early, but is fully equipped to handle complex restorative cases, including crowns, bridges, dentures, and root canal therapy. They show significant proficiency in cosmetic dentistry solutions like tooth-colored fillings and porcelain crowns that restore both function and aesthetics seamlessly. A key component of their service is patient education on periodontal health, recognizing gum disease as a critical factor in overall dental wellness.

The unique value proposition of Park South Dental lies in its deep community integration, ethical practice, and accessibility. Located on a major Bronx thoroughfare, it is a convenient and trusted resource for a population that may face challenges in accessing specialized healthcare. The practice is known for working diligently with patients to navigate dental insurance, offer flexible payment solutions, and make essential care financially feasible. They prioritize creating a judgment-free zone, understanding that patients may have avoided the dentist for years due to fear or cost, and focus on building a positive path forward from the very first visit.

Ultimately, what distinguishes Park South Dental is its unwavering commitment to being more than just a service provider—it is a healthcare partner to the community. The trust it has cultivated over the years is built on consistency, integrity, clinical skill, and genuine compassion. In a borough as vibrant and demanding as the Bronx, Dr. Phillip Lam's practice remains a stable and respected institution, dedicated not just to treating teeth but to caring for people, one smile at a time. It is a place where clinical procedures are performed with precision, but where the patient experience is defined by respect, clarity, and a genuine desire to see every individual achieve lasting oral health.

I am a new patient with Dr Sterling and the appointment went really well. Her office came as a referral and she definitely met my expectations as did her team. She read my XRays and reassured me that she would likely be able to save the tooth I was most concerned with. Not only that, they were unexpectedly able to accommodate a cleaning. I found my new Dental Home. Even better that it's close to home. Another satisfied patient!!

The staff is inconsistently friendly. In addition, I paid so much out of pocket for these dentures that look like Halloween teeth. I was told they were the best, but must have been the best for a costume. I informed the dentist (Dr. Sterling) that it cut my mouth and she told me it took time. The thickness of the dentures is unrelenting and time did not heal the consistent cuts. I didn't go back and lost out on money. Atleast I will be ready to play a hillbilly or bum for 10/31/26.

Imagine paying full upfront for Invisalign but they only want to give you one tray at a time and make you come back every 2 weeks. Then the Ortho gets sick for months and the office doesn't bother to find a replacement for patients treatments. You have a broken tray and your teeth start shifting back . They never straighten your teeth even when the Ortho comes back doesn't even give you the retainer at the end of treatment (that you paid for). You learn the at when getting Invisalign they are supposed to bond attachments on your teeth to ensure trays grab on to straighten teeth. When you go back one final time they try to sell you Invisalign All over again charging even more for just bottom teeth than what you had already paid initially for re top and bottom! No respect for patients money or time or health. Now do to.failed Invisalign that they never took responsibility for you try to go another route of straightening and making your teeth look presentable. The dentist sells you a bridge saying it would fix all the issues you mention (I know perfection is not possible) though they made it seem that way. They pull out your 2 front teeth ,.you trust them. Imagine getting your front teeth pulled for a bridge that is done crooked. One side longer and thicker than the other. One side so thin and short that now your mouth looks crooked and you lack lip support.. so simple make left side even to the right in length and thickness!!! the bridge is not even fitted into the gums properly and you feel all liquids going inside. You mention this but the dentist tells you to wait w it bonded it to get used to it. I paid 2 x! Thinking they will fix the problem Of the short thin side and they still don't!!!! Pulled out teeth and they never mention consequences Of that (bone loss) . They took over one year to give you your bridge and it's crooked!!! So much time w obvious failed attempts so you give up. Money lost time lost , months and months w different temporary bridges even causing a jaw dislocation. They have really affected my whole life negatively
