About
SmileWorks Dentistry & Orthodontics is a premier dental practice located in Midtown Manhattan at 30 Central Park South, Room 11D, New York, NY 10019. The practice represents a modern reimagining of comprehensive dental care, combining pediatric dentistry and orthodontics under one roof to serve patients of all ages with a focus on comfort, education, and advanced technology.
The practice is built on a patient-centered philosophy that treats each patient as if they were family members. This approach is exemplified through the leadership of Dr. Hyo Sup Shin, whose treatment philosophy emphasizes personalized care that balances scientific expertise with artistic skill to create beautiful and healthy smiles. Dr. Shin's commitment to community service has been recognized at the highest levels, having received the President's Volunteer Service Award from President Obama in 2016 for her contributions to the New York City community.
SmileWorks distinguishes itself through its comprehensive, all-in-one care model that eliminates the need for patients to visit multiple offices for different dental needs. The practice offers both pediatric dentistry and orthodontic services, streamlining the family's dental journey and ensuring continuity of care. This integrated approach is particularly valuable for families with children, as it provides convenient access to specialized pediatric care alongside orthodontic treatment options.
The practice is staffed by highly qualified dental professionals, including Dr. Christine Yeojin Kim, a board-certified pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Kim completed her dental education at NYU College of Dentistry and pursued specialized training through residencies at Flushing Hospital Medical Center and Maimonides Medical Center. Her expertise in pediatric dentistry is complemented by her philosophy that all children deserve quality oral care and that a lifetime of healthy oral health begins in infancy.
SmileWorks has invested significantly in state-of-the-art technology to enhance patient care and comfort. The practice utilizes advanced digital X-ray technology that provides highly detailed diagnostic images with significantly less radiation exposure than traditional X-rays, ensuring faster, safer, and more accurate diagnoses. The practice also employs the Solea laser, which allows many procedures to be performed without needles or drills, making dental work virtually painless and silent—a significant advantage for anxious or young patients.
The physical environment at SmileWorks has been thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming, child-friendly atmosphere that reduces dental anxiety. Treatment rooms are equipped with televisions and streaming options to keep patients relaxed and entertained during procedures. The waiting area features games and interactive elements designed to make dental visits enjoyable rather than anxiety-inducing. Additionally, the practice provides a beverage station and other comfort amenities that reflect the practice's commitment to patient well-being.
Beyond clinical excellence, SmileWorks demonstrates a strong commitment to community involvement and giving back. The practice actively supports the Hang Tough Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping families facing childhood illness and special needs, participating in their events and providing free dental education materials. SmileWorks has also sponsored 'Backpacks for Success,' an initiative helping local students obtain necessary school supplies. Looking forward, the practice plans to expand its community involvement by sponsoring youth sports teams and dance studios in the area.
The practice's approach to patient education is fundamental to its mission. SmileWorks prioritizes empowering both children and adults with knowledge about oral health, recognizing that informed patients are better equipped to maintain healthy teeth and gums throughout their lives. This educational focus extends beyond the treatment room, with the practice maintaining a comprehensive blog offering oral health tips, treatment insights, and educational content.
SmileWorks serves the Manhattan area with convenient access to public transportation and nearby parking options. The practice is recognized as an award-winning dental provider, reflecting its commitment to excellence in clinical care and patient satisfaction. Whether patients require routine check-ups, cavity prevention and treatment, emergency dental care, special needs dentistry, traditional braces, clear aligners for teens, or early orthodontic interventions, SmileWorks provides comprehensive solutions delivered with expertise, compassion, and cutting-edge technology.

Customer Reviews
Dr. Shin is absolutely amazing! She’s incredibly attentive, patient, and kind — by far the best dentist I’ve ever had. She took the time to listen to all my concerns and addressed each one perfectly. My teeth have never looked better or felt healthier! Her staff is just as wonderful — friendly, accommodating, and always welcoming. Overall my experience was a 10/10, I would absolutely recommend!!
Wonderful Staff! Sister and brother Dentist team and it’s been a great experience each appointment. Dr.Shin is personable and very gentle during treatments — this made the treatment painless and quick. Can’t recommend them enough! -Charlotte
Everyone, from the front desk to the staff, is extremely professional and dedicated. Dr. Jin is always smiling and very considerate, and Dr. Peter is not only good-looking but also highly skilled. The extraction was very professional, completely painless, and he kept reassuring me the whole time. Overall, it was a very positive experience.
It’s so hard to find a good dentist I’m so thankful I found SmileWorks. Outside of my routine visits, I had trouble with a fixed retainer done somewhere else which they immediately helped me with. I’ve gotten Invisalign and Dr. Shin (orthodontist) was so easy to work with. She’s so friendly and prioritizes your wants and happiness with your smile. Most recently I got the icon infiltration treatment on my white spots with Dr. Shin (dentist) and I’m so happy with my smile. Love all the doctors, assistants and receptionists!!! :)
If you cherish your teeth and what makes your smile uniquely you, then don't come here. Disclaimer: I ended my treatment (braces) early because I no longer trusted that Dr. Shin had a thought-out plan prioritizing my oral health and the things that I loved about my smile.
From the first day, I already sensed red flags. Cutting pieces of wiring in my mouth but leaving the metal clippings inside of my mouth. Luckily, I decided to rinse my mouth and saw the metal pieces float out with the water. This happened repeatedly as if this is acceptable - what if a patient accidentally swallowed the metal bits?
Dr. Shin, in our early check-ins, would spend at most 5 minutes with me, without asking how my teeth were feeling. Or explaining to me my treatment steps for the future. After the first few visits, I made it my point to bring up concerns or questions that I had without waiting for her to ask.
One of her technicians let me walk out without a bracket on one of my teeth. She was tasked to re-wire because some brackets broke off. But somehow after working in my mouth, did not notice that one was entirely missing. Luckily, I noticed this when I looked at my teeth in the waiting room mirror. This technician had this nonchalant attitude as if she is doing a good job, but I dreaded getting her. She would poke me, not respect my requests when I said I don't want the suction, and let the long wires cut the inside of my mouth until I pointed it out days later.
Perhaps worst of all, Dr. Shin "polished" my teeth after the braces were taken off. I didn't know this, and regret my treatment 200% because she shaved parts of my teeth off - leaving my teeth now more sensitive and flatter than they were before. I am planning to seek another orthodontist to get my teeth back to how they were originally, but I can't revert this damage.
Yes, Dr. Shin is charming and is a sweet person with a family. However, I completely regret agreeing to braces with her and her team. This affects me for the rest of my life.
The ONE star Smileworks deserves is the DENTIST (sorry I forgot her name). She worked diligently and attentively to clean my teeth amidst my treatment. Her work lifted my confidence back up for a short while. I felt genuinely cared for by her, and am grateful for her attention to detail and commitment to quality care for her patients. She did everything she could to fight back the gunk building up from having braces and not being able to floss.
Ultimately, I honestly am not sure how the orthodontics have such high reviews. Leaving mine here in the chance this helps someone like me.
