About

Summer Street Cat Clinic P.C. stands as a beacon of specialized feline care in the heart of Buffalo, New York. Founded on the principle that cats are not small dogs and deserve medical care tailored to their unique physiological and behavioral needs, this clinic has carved out a prestigious reputation as a dedicated feline-only veterinary practice. For over two decades, it has served the cat owners of Buffalo and the surrounding Western New York communities from its welcoming location at 25 Summer Street, operating with a singular mission: to provide the highest standard of compassionate, comprehensive, and fear-free veterinary medicine exclusively for cats.

The clinic's philosophy is rooted in a deep understanding of the feline patient. Cats are masters of hiding illness and can experience significant stress in traditional veterinary settings. Summer Street Cat Clinic is designed from the ground up to counteract this. The environment is intentionally calm and quiet, with separate waiting areas for cats in carriers and those arriving in harnesses or arms, minimizing predatory sights and sounds. Examination rooms are equipped with comfortable bedding, pheromone diffusers, and techniques that prioritize low-stress handling, allowing for more accurate assessments and creating a positive experience for both cat and owner.

What truly sets Summer Street Cat Clinic apart is its team's exclusive focus on feline medicine. The veterinarians and support staff are not general practitioners who see cats; they are dedicated feline specialists. This focus allows them to stay at the forefront of advancements in cat-specific diagnostics, treatments, and pharmacology. They possess an nuanced understanding of conditions common to cats, such as chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD), and complex dental issues. Their expertise extends to behavior counseling, a critical yet often overlooked aspect of feline health, where they address problems like inappropriate elimination, inter-cat aggression, and anxiety with evidence-based strategies.

The clinic's service offering is comprehensive, covering the entire lifespan of a cat. It begins with kitten wellness programs, including essential vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and early socialization advice. For adult cats, the clinic emphasizes preventive care through semi-annual wellness exams, tailored vaccination protocols, advanced dental care with digital radiography, and nutritional counseling. For senior cats (typically ages 7 and above), they offer specialized geriatric screening panels to detect the subtle early signs of age-related diseases. Their diagnostic capabilities are robust, featuring in-house laboratory equipment, digital radiography, and likely ultrasound, enabling rapid and accurate diagnosis. The surgical suite is equipped for a range of procedures, from routine sterilizations to more complex soft-tissue surgeries, all performed with feline-specific pain management and monitoring protocols.

The unique value proposition of Summer Street Cat Clinic is a blend of deep specialization, a cat-centric environment, and a client-centered approach. They educate and partner with pet owners, taking the time to explain conditions and treatment options thoroughly. This commitment to communication fosters trust and empowers owners to make the best decisions for their feline family members. In a region with many excellent veterinary practices, Summer Street Cat Clinic distinguishes itself by offering a sanctuary of understanding—a place where every aspect of care, from the physical layout to the medical protocols, is conceived with the singular goal of honoring the unique nature of the cat. It is more than a veterinary clinic; it is a dedicated advocate for feline health and well-being in the Buffalo community.

We felt comfortable from the minute we walked in to this cute, quaint yet professional veterinary clinic. The doctor, vet techs etc were very personable and knowledgeable regarding the care of my baby boy. Extremely thorough and made suggestions without pushing to make a sale! I am so happy that my orange boy has become an established patient with such a fantastic vet clinic❤️

100% phenomenal vets for cats. I brought my cat in for emergency services on a Saturday, & they got me in right away first thing that morning. I told them I thought my cat was sadly dying, & they were so comforting & supportive & you could just see that they really cared.. I explained to them what had been going on recently with my cat, & they obviously asked me what I wanted to do, & didn’t push the typical testing process like most vets do. Once I explained to them the situation, they understood completely what sadly had to be done. They walked me through the entire euthanizing process & explained everything very throughly & helped me feel at least a little better about having to put my childhood cat down. They even hugged me.. (yes - I was an absolute mess the entire time). I have been going to Summer St Cat Clinic for roughly 3 years now, & I have nothing but good things to say about them since the time I’ve started taking my cats to their clinic. 10/10, would highly recommend to anyone with cats! 🤍

I’ve been taking my two Bengal cats to Summer Street Cat Clinic for five years now, and the experience is always pleasant, professional, and collaborative. I appreciate the staff’s thoughtful recommendations, and not feeling pressured when I ask questions about the pros and cons and/or if I decline their recommendation. For anyone seeking high quality care for their kitties, I recommend checking them out.

The clinic was able to see my cat during a crisis the same day. They did an excellent job at helping me stay calm as they ran bloodwork and did an exam of him and administered treatment. Very grateful. Very friendly and compassionate staff.

Great with cats ,seem like they really care. On the pricier side but you get what you pay for with clinics sometimes. Just wish they groomed too and it would be the perfect place any and all cats.
