About

Union Square Dental, nestled at 29 West 19th Street Suite 1 in the vibrant Flatiron District of Manhattan, New York, NY 10011, stands as a beacon of comprehensive dental care for adults and children alike. Led by the esteemed cosmetic dentist Lana Rozenberg, DDS, this practice has earned a reputation for reliability, accessibility, and patient-centered service in the heart of New York City. While specific founding dates are not detailed in available records, the practice thrives on the extensive expertise of its providers, many of whom bring over a decade of hands-on experience to the chair, reflecting a commitment to long-standing excellence in oral health.[6][8] Dr. Yuliya Kanatova, DDS, a general dentist with more than 10 years in the field, exemplifies this dedication, having graduated with honors from the prestigious New York University College of Dentistry and maintaining active membership in the Leading Physicians of the World. Her compassionate approach, combined with the skills of colleagues like Dr. Michael Behrouzian, DDS—who earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from USC’s Ostrow School of Dentistry and advanced his training at NYU Langone Hospital—ensures a team equipped to handle diverse dental needs under one roof.[3][6][8]

The mission of Union Square Dental is clear: to deliver reliable, high-quality dental care that prioritizes patient preferences and comfort. They achieve this by offering same-day and emergency appointments, eliminating the stress of prolonged waits during dental crises. Accepting most insurance plans—including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Delta Dental, and Emblem Health—this practice makes professional care accessible without financial barriers, further supported by affordable programs tailored for new patients.[3][6] What truly sets Union Square Dental apart is its in-house multidisciplinary team, featuring endodontists, pediatric dentists, and cosmetic experts. This eliminates the need for external referrals, providing seamless, efficient treatment for everything from routine check-ups to complex procedures like root canals and aesthetic enhancements. Patients rave about the practice's honesty and transparency; reviews highlight how doctors thoroughly verify insurance coverage upfront, avoid recommending unnecessary procedures, and deliver exceptional results—such as crowns so well-crafted that subsequent dentists compliment their quality.[3][6]

Services at Union Square Dental encompass a full spectrum of general, cosmetic, and specialized dentistry. From preventive care like regular exams and cleanings to restorative work including crowns, root canals, and fillings, the practice addresses immediate needs while promoting long-term oral health. Their expertise in sedation dentistry caters to anxious patients, ensuring a comfortable experience. Cosmetic dentistry shines under Dr. Rozenberg’s leadership, offering smile makeovers that blend aesthetics with function. Pediatric services make the practice family-friendly, while advanced training in minimally invasive and biomimetic techniques—championed by Dr. Behrouzian—focuses on preserving natural tooth structure for durable, natural-looking outcomes.[6][8] The state-of-the-art facility operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with every other Saturday available, and remains closed on Sundays, providing flexible scheduling amid the bustle of NYC life.[2][6]

Union Square Dental's unique value proposition lies in its blend of convenience, expertise, and patient empowerment. Unlike many urban practices that fragment care across specialists, this one-roof solution saves time and reduces costs. Their emphasis on education—discussing treatment options thoroughly—empowers patients to make informed choices. Positive testimonials underscore this: long-term patients of 15 years call them 'the best,' praising painless root canals, superior customer service, and trustworthy advice.[6] In a city saturated with dental options, Union Square Dental distinguishes itself through unwavering professionalism, cutting-edge training from top institutions like NYU and USC, and a genuine focus on achieving optimal smiles without upselling. Whether you're a local seeking a second opinion or a family needing comprehensive care, Union Square Dental delivers exceptional results with a personal touch, making it the go-to destination for dental excellence in Manhattan's Flatiron District. I've been going to this dental office since I moved to NYC over 15 years ago and have since discovered it's time for a change. I was scheduled for an appointment, sent in my insurance information via text which is how I confirm the appointment. I requested repeatedly for acknowledgement of my text with my updated insurance and to confirm the appointment. With no reply I called to confirm and received confirmation. On the day of my appointment I cancel other pending meetings to arrive and the receptionist tells me my appointment was for a later date. I whip out my phone to share the correspondence which confirmed my appointment and all the times I'd asked for confirmation with no reply. Ultimately they saw me but my appointment was rushed, not to my liking and very unprofessional. They are dated in their approach to dentistry, charging $75 for fluoride treatments which other offices offer for free. And at all of my previous appointments they would at least give a tooth brunch and floss but not this visit. Simply a quick you look great, let's schedule your next appointment. I'd always felt like they were trying to up sell me on treatments and having been to other offices I can say I was correct and also that more modern dental offices don't require that dumb plastic object to go in your mouth for an x-ray. New offices are using panoramic or cephalometric X-ray. Consider your options as I will for my next visit. Thank you Union Sq dental for pushing me to see how dentistry has evolved! x

Beware the constant upselling. On my first visit they frightened me into buying 4 sets of Invisalign to wear as anti-grinding guards — saying it would be less costly than when I inevitably crack my teeth from grinding — and I later learned from friends that you can just wear one pair for years and years (they told me each set would only last a year or two). They made $1,400 off me on my first visit. Today they tried to tell me my gums were infected and that I needed antibiotics that they use for post surgery tooth pulls — bear in mind I floss and brush daily and havd gotten an “A+” from dentists my whole life. I have never had any issues with my teeth or gum health. I asked how much and she said it’s $90. This time I knew to ask about insurance coverage, and declined. She also tried to upsell me on a fluoride treatment that wouldn’t be covered by insurance. Unfortunately this is the only dentist within an hour that takes my awful insurance. Based on my experience I will probably just pay out of pocket to see my old dentist (from a different insurance era) in my neighborhood.

This place is the worst. You are left with an aggressive hygienist who spends 30 minutes shaming you about your terrible oral hygiene in order to get you to purchase another product. Then wait up to 39 minutes for the dentist to come in and spend two minutes to say everything is fine. On my last visit the hygienist really ripped up my gums and I’m still recovering 5 days later. Will be searching for another dentist for next time.

Very disappointing experience today. I had an 11:00 am appointment and arrived at 11:05 after traveling almost an hour and paying for a babysitter. The receptionist, Mercedes, insisted I pay the $205 (after insurance) upfront before they even touched my teeth and sent a link to my husband to pay. While we were handling the payment, my dentist took another patient, and I left around 11:30 with no treatment. I felt treated like a problem, not a patient — they clearly prioritized money over my health and time. If you don’t value me as a patient, I don’t want to stay, and I won’t be returning.

PLEASE READ IF YOU VALUE TOUR TEETH, INTEGRAL SERVICE, AND AVOIDING SCAMS! TAKE A LOOK AT THE PHOTOS TO LITERALLY SEE HOW THEY ADJUSTED THE PRICING AFTER THEY DISCOVERED THEY CHARGED ME FOR A PROCEDURE THAT WAS 100% COVERED IN ORDER TO AVOID REFUNDING WHAT WAS RIGHTFULLY OWED TO ME. This dental office was by far a nightmare come to life! Not only did they scam me and my insurance, they habitually tried to gaslight me into convincing me that I was wrong. All of the secretaries except for Jill- who often wear a baseball cap, participated in trying to get me to believe that my insurance didn’t cover a filling, despite being told time and time again by several of my insurance advocates that this was false. The secretary who wears glasses even printed out a document from 2020 allegedly describing my current coverage in 2024 which has since been exponentially updated to include a slew of new covered procedures. Low & behold after my 4th visit and millionth time going back and forth, they discovered the filling was covered and I rightfully so, requested a refund. They then adjusted the price of a different procedure (see photos) to make up for the refund they were required to give me. Shame on them! And I am considering pursuing legal action because they’re likely getting over on so many other hardworking individuals. Let’s talk service. I saw doctor Kanatova, who appears kind and competent. She was never disrespectful and explained the procedures I needed and truthfully there were no complaints when she did the filling and half mouth deep cleaning. It was the after care that alarmed me. My filling didn’t cure the problem it seems. I continuously went back to get service on the side she worked on because I couldn’t chew on it without it hurting. She took additional X-rays, flossed it, nothing appeared to be wrong with the filling nor could she determine what was wrong and decided she’d refer me to a root canal specialist even after claiming the filling was not touching the nerve of the tooth. Needless to say, I’m not even sure where to go from here. I have a improperly done filling that causes pain, I’m out of $137 dollars after they likely falsely adjusted the payment, and I hope that you made it to the end of this review because I’d hate for this to happen to YOU. BEWARE! But if you find yourself HAVING TO come here, ASK QUESTIONS, BE MINDFUL, AND DO NOT LET THEM GET OVER ON YOU! Shame on this entire establishment.
