About

Zen Dentistry East Village stands as a paradigm-shifting dental practice in the heart of Manhattan's vibrant East Village, redefining the dental experience by seamlessly blending clinical excellence with holistic wellness principles. Founded on the core belief that oral health is intrinsically linked to overall well-being, the practice was established to dismantle the anxiety and discomfort traditionally associated with dental visits. From the moment patients step into its serene, thoughtfully designed space at 333 E 14th St, they are transported into an environment of calm. The clinic’s aesthetic—featuring warm, natural materials, soft lighting, and a minimalist decor—deliberately counters the sterile, clinical feel of conventional offices, setting the stage for a fundamentally different kind of care. The practice's mission extends far beyond treating cavities and performing cleanings; it is dedicated to fostering lasting partnerships with patients, empowering them with knowledge, and providing personalized care that aligns with their individual health journeys and lifestyle values. The clinical team, led by highly skilled dentists, operates with a dual focus: employing the most advanced, evidence-based dental technologies and techniques while simultaneously integrating a mindful, patient-centered approach. This unique value proposition is encapsulated in their name—'Zen'—which reflects their commitment to creating a peaceful, respectful, and stress-free environment. What truly sets Zen Dentistry East Village apart is its holistic philosophy. The team considers factors such as nutrition, sleep, stress, and systemic health connections when diagnosing and planning treatment. They prioritize biocompatible materials, offer minimally invasive options, and educate patients on the oral-systemic link, including connections to heart health, diabetes, and inflammation. Their expertise is not just in fixing problems but in preventive, proactive care designed to maintain optimal health for a lifetime. In a city saturated with dental options, Zen Dentistry distinguishes itself through its unparalleled patient experience, its integration of cutting-edge technology (like digital scanners, low-radiation digital X-rays, and intraoral cameras) with a compassionate touch, and its dedication to treating the whole person, not just the tooth. It is a sanctuary for those who have avoided the dentist due to fear, for health-conscious individuals seeking aligned care, and for anyone desiring a dental practice that feels more like a wellness destination.

I had to have a complex procedure. Despite being a physician myself, I walked in with fear and anticipation. Left with a great sense of admiration and comfort. Dr Demetree was technically amazing and at the same time wonderfully humane in her approach. Jeannette and Ruben , her assistants were masters of their metier: kind, precise and made me feel at great ease. Glad to find this great team. The front desk could not be nicer! Highly recommended

From the reception staff to the dentist Dr. Demetree, I highly recommend Zen Dentistry. Professional, thoughtful and caring, my experience was excellent. Be sure to ask for Michelle to clean your teeth. She's a great hygentist.

If you are going to Zen Dentistry East Village, specifically request *not* to see Carletta Demetree who is unprofessional and abrasive. She did not bother going over the treatment plan and left it to her technician/the dental hygienist to decipher and explain. The hygienist was unable to answer questions and went to ask her to clarify and she huffily stormed back into the examination room, visibly irate that she needed to interact further. When simple follow up questions were asked about the terminology she was using, she became increasingly agitated and said "I don't have time to go over dental school with you." It was extremely condescending, which she realized and admitted, and tried to provide a half-formed apology by saying that the questions made her "feel like her medical capability was being questioned" - when she didn't even have the decency to review the treatment plan or recommendation directly in the first place. The front desk is kind and responsive but it doesn't make up for the severe lack of professional conduct by this dentist.
